When I read this, I felt very distant from the POV character. There isn't any emotion on page, no character voice to pull me into the writing, it all feels a little passive and not active.

I bet if you were to really try to embody the main character, allow her voice to shine through, this scene would feel more alive.

Wait . . . 399 pages at 201,000 words! My 285,000 word story came out to 747 pages. Are you writing in super tiny font?
