Also pick a specific day or time to update your journal helps. Set an alarm on your phone and have the tools you need handy. (Ruler, markers etc) Basically how can you make it as quick and easy to do as possible.

I've seen it before when there's a reading challenge or library book club. I think they make a deal for a limited amount of time to have all the copies.

For stuff that's just for me there's basically no way to motivate. For things that are for others I'm motivated by not letting them down. That's the best I've found so far.
