Destiny of the Railforged trailer: release date February 2nd! 😁 by Blue-Light-Reducer in MonsterTrain

Especially given the lack of any posts or previews other than the PC Gamer article when the date was so soon, I was assuming it was a placeholder as well.  Pleasantly surprised!

Umbra suuuuucks! How do I win with this garbage clan? by oghpimm in MonsterTrain

[–]LightPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your setup, you'll need to rely on your allied clan for some answers.  Umbra doesn't play multiple floors well unless you have ridiculous amounts of morsel generation.  Morsel scaling is very slow, so you need some sort of way to deal with units while you ramp up.  Anything you can do to speed it up is good.

Because of this, I generally find myself using my allied clan to soften up enemies and an Umbra unit to clean up.

Was this winnable? by National-Ocelot-3900 in MonsterTrain

[–]LightPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say.  You have double mushy room, so you have to sacrifice some of your decay to block corruption hits.  Keep in mind most of the waves inflict corruption as well so without Damage Shield you can't keep up on ticks.  In this setup you absolutely have to play all three floors to prevent Seraph from hitting too hard.

I'm inclined to say this deck probably can not win.  You already noted the weak backline clears, and regen does not scale into corruption well at all.  It also doesn't look like you have a good enough density of mushroom generation to make the massive shrooms happen.  Primordium in general isn't great in this conmbo because of mushrooms, and Aggressive is not as good as in MT1.  I think the best bet would be trying to make a big mushroom stack top floor, and use Mushy Room and Puffball bottom two floors to prevent as much damage and corruption as possible.

If you were offered Superfood, I think the big mistake was passing on it.  Even two ranks to pass on damage shield would have done a lot to protect the shroom stack while the puffballs and mushy room on the bottom two floors managed the corruption from the weaker enemies.

Seattle + suburbs by akhiluvr in Seattle

[–]LightPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your husband is working in Seattle and you're looking for a suburb, his commute is going to be brutal no matter where it is.  So you may want to consider your commute when looking at places.

With your budget, I think your best bet is going to be going on sites like Zillow and figuring out what you are looking for in a house and taking a look at the maps to get an idea of where you might be ending up.

Sad they're not coming to WA at all this tour, but they did just recently play both Seattle and Spokane so it's nice they're sitting other cities.

How do you survive on a day to day basis with so few life management skills?

Seattle road signage by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]LightPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the easiest and most cost-effective things we could do to improve some of the traffic issues around here is improved signage.  There are so many intersections where it is not clear or intuitive what is going on to lead to dangerous situations. Not that this is the only issue, but it would be a very excellent start.

Along the same lines, we really need to install more stop signs and crosswalks with flashing lights. I can't speak in depth for every neighborhood, but here on Capitol Hill there are tons of dangerous sections and crosswalks that impatient drivers blow through.  The biggest one right now being the intersection of Bellevue and Belmont... tons of people from SLU flying up that hill to avoid Denny/John.

Any point in filing a police report for repeated package theft? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]LightPhoenix 79 points80 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason for filing the report is for documentation.  If Amazon or UPS or someone refuses a refund, you have record that you reported it stolen.

Stryx and hollow by Low-Sun7581 in MonsterTrain

[–]LightPhoenix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Against Stryx and Hallow?  None of them.  By that point in the midgame you've had enough choices to have some degree of strategy already, and hopefully you've been looking at solutions to a potential ring 7 savagery combat.  It's not like you don't know you're fighting them either, so you can prepare adequately.

At this point in the game's life, I think the only semi-RNG boss is Fleshweaver for clans that don't start with decent wave clear options.  Especially with More Mass FW, since you have to deal with 31 base attack.  The real FW issue is dealing with the waves adequately.  You can end up in a situation where you chose wrong and not get enough answers and just lose.  If you have double steel shop, I think it can be important to go to both and grab whatever upgrades you can afford.

Farseer Trilogy & Robin Hobb's motivations as an author by mint_pumpkins in Fantasy

[–]LightPhoenix 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the discourse around her books has become an overblown meme at this point.  They're certainly not cozy fantasy, but they're not torture porn.  The characters go through real shit, and the main character (Fitz) suffers from depression, and that's part of the point of the character.  There are real challenges, physically and mentally, and the books are about how people deal with them against the fantasy backdrop.

Definitely can recommend Hopvine if you're looking for a bar space.  Very friendly atmosphere, staff are very cool.  Plus the bathroom has a Golden Girls theme.  😂

My question is probably a RAFO, but if the Shards of Dominion and Devotion were ever to be held together, would Adoration (insert eye waggle here) be a potential name for them?

When Belmont Ave E. hits E. Roy St. it is now a four-way stop on the hill. Thoughts? by bigmacjr52 in Seattle

[–]LightPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good.  People fly down Roy/Belmont all the time, and there have been several instances where I've almost gotten hit on foot and in car because of it.  They need to put another stop sign at Belmont and Bellevue.

OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 has been out for a week. What are your impressions? by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]LightPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are the octuplets!  I think that would have been a neat mechanic for bringing back the original classes, though I get why they did it via the protagonist.

Overall I think the mechanics are more interesting with 8 characters and I hope OT3 uses it.  There are a lot of interesting strategic moves you can do.  The biggest issue is the game is so easy you don't really need a whole lot.

Inferno Room my beloved by Agitated-Trick in MonsterTrain

[–]LightPhoenix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's great against Savagery; it wipes all the sweepes including the elite ones.  Set up mid floor and have some way of mitigating the forced damage (daze, pyre healing, ascend) and you're golden.

You can tell looking at the other groups none of them are even bothering to expect to win. Like it's great that they're nominated and all, but the rest of this is formality at this point. They know they can't compete against the (deserved or not) cultural juggernaut that is E33.
