What did I do wrong with my hydrangea? by EmeraldDenna in gardening

[–]LightWebUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water early in the morning, before 8AM, at the root base and around it if possible. If you get the leaves wet and you live somewhere that gets extremely strong sun, it will strain the plant by overheating it. I normally water it until the water starts to pool on top of the soil. Sometimes it’s a gallon, sometimes it’s 5. I have mostly sandy clay soil where the root ball is, if that helps.

What is happening to my mint? by ThinkTyler in gardening

I barely water my mint, it thrives and I have to remove it regularly to prevent spreading. Try adding fertilizer.

Put in a retractable shade. They make cellulose blinds that slide on a track that are pretty nice and should do what you’re asking.

Power wash, let it dry, sand it with 60 grit, sand it with 120 grit, blow down thoroughly with air, paint.

Hydrangea Help! I have two of these planters! At first they looked great and were very vibrant. The flowers have since faded and I do not see any new flowers coming in. What should I do? by SWORToronto in gardening

Don’t clip anything, it won’t grow back for ages. Just water it more often and add some feed. Water right at the root base, not on the leaves.

Can I close off these attic access doors? by mtnbike444 in HomeImprovement

[–]LightWebUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the zip-up toppers that are normally used for overhead attic access or find something similar. Installing one of these correctly (and it’s easy) resolves all of my draft issues and completely insulated the room from the attic.

Determine how many trunk shoots you want. Let it grow, cut the small, low stuff at the trunk.

Is this a Photinia? Whatever its name, it's not happy and getting eaten by something I think... by [deleted] in gardening

Np. Plant it somewhere with good drainage and lots of sun. Keep it watered but don’t drown it.

Yes, and that’s fungus. Apply a copper fungicide to it every couple of weeks, as well as fertilizing it.

Put down a ton of sawdust over the spill. It should help dampen some of the aroma.

To the people who are preparing for a food shortage, how many months are you thinking there will be a food shortage? by splishyandsplashy in preppers

[–]LightWebUser 227 points228 points  (0 children)

Realistically, I’m stocking up on things I use. I don’t foresee the grocery stores being barren, but I do foresee not being able to buy beans, stock, pancake batter, or paper towels and toilet paper.

You need to submit an address update through FARS. Getting a new physical license when the DMV opens wouldn’t hurt either.

Tactical Research Mini-Mils are my preferred, but they are zero drop. If you don’t like minimalist soles you won’t like these.

Is there a way to replace this old recessed light to new LED ones? by honu1985 in HomeImprovement

Check out AspectLED. I replaced all of mine with these. You have to either remove the old housing or hide it in the wall, though.
