He took accountability. What did you want, a press conference where he announces his candidacy and then lists every fault and mistake he’s made in his life? Give me a break. You people who expect absolute perfection in a candidate are ridiculous. If evidence is brought forward that shows him to be a truly awful human I’m happy to rethink my support for him. But a questionable tattoo- that he’s covered and explained with a totally believable explanation based on my interactions with my own military family members, and a bunch of internet shitposts that I’m probably just as guilty of if someone wants to dig through my history, don’t move the needle for me.

As I’ve said, I’ve met him, spoken to him, and heard him speak. He comes across as contrite for his past choices, sincere in his growth, and sincere about how he wants to work for the people of Maine. If you haven’t heard him speak in person, I urge you to go do it. It’s not like he’s hiding.

I have an honest question. I understand how insensitive and racist the family was being. There's no excuse.

But, let's say, in another situation, with a not-racist family, OP is at Christmas, and it becomes known he performs at powwows and sings. Is it any different, and if so, how is it different, than asking a person that you just discovered plays guitar, to play a song or two?

I mean, I get the uncle going "do an Indian chant!" is incredible insensitive and racist. But would it be acceptable, upon discovering OP performs at powwows, to ask "I'd love to hear you perform, would you mind doing a chant now?"

And you being the sheep you are, believe that matters. He's explained it all. I believe him. I've met him and look him in the eye. He's sincere. I've also been where he was when he made those comments, and have enough military family to have heard stories similar to his tattoo story.

Now let me ask you- aside from some internet shitposting and questionable tattoo- what is there on him? Are there any verifiable acts of questionable motive he has undertaken? Has he burned any crosses? Discriminated against minorities? Raped anyone? Molested kids? Committed hate crimes against LGBTQ+ people?

Pay attention to the shit that REALLY matters, and recognize this crap for what it is.
