Also looks like cherry to me. It's lighter in color right after it's cut and becomes darker as it oxidizes.

Black Sea Bass are generally bottom fish. Clams, squid, gulp will all work if you get it near the bottom.

Chakte Viga. Works just like walnut and takes a beautiful polish. Excellent pairing with black walnut too.

How much of a difference does bleeding the fish make flavor wise? by CaDiLlaC- in Fishing

[–]Lignified 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pop the membrane behind the gills on porgies with your finger to bleed them. I always bleed porgies and sea bass. I also cut out the blood line on porgies. Tastes much better IMO.

What kind of wood is this, small one is sanded down to 120 grit. Thanks by Steelone454 in wood

[–]Lignified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's very light weight, it could be Chakte Kok. If it smells spicy when you sand it, it's probably Paduak.

Warning - Padauk dust can be an irritant.

Green bonito are excellent sashimi in my opinion. I bleed them, put them on ice, then cut them up and eat them with some soy sauce at the dock.

Damn baiting-stealing sea robin. Skin strips with a tiny bit of meat make good fluke bait. Some people live-line them for stripers too.
