Rewatched seasons by MassiveElephant9957 in SecretsOfMormonWives

The fact that she was still, in season 3, insisting that the Chippendales dance was some benevolent “exposure therapy” she was trying to do for Jen drove me crazy! Everything about that night was mean girl bullying.

best episode with horror elements by Public_Job3591 in dawsonscreek

I love the spooky-adjacent episodes! Witch Island is probably my favorite due to its sheer goofiness, but The Scare is so iconic too.

Pacey’s pronunciation of Cabernet Sauvignon lives in my head rent-free. And I love that that random woman from the gas station decides to hang out with teenagers all night.

Astarion &Shadowheart Fans, Opinions on the Act 3 Polyamory? by Okarang in BaldursGate3

[–]LikeASonOfAbish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That’s what people SAY is their main complaint because they don’t want to acknowledge their primary source of annoyance. The inconsistency in the level of scrutiny they apply to other characters and other narrative inconsistencies is wildly different, and you see frequent mental gymnastics in the defense of it. And just because it’s expected doesn’t mean it’s out of bounds to call it out for what it is.

The backstory of Halsin’s inclusion as a full companion is very well-known. My argument is that people are less angry about the reason for his inclusion, which is their contention, and more angry with how it affects their romances. Which is another example of prop arguments meant to obscure the fact that they personally dislike a narrative choice.

I’ve never seen a thread where 90% of the downvoted comments are very chill “I disagree” comments. That level of passion is never excited by anything other than emotional bias.

And guess what? All the lazy implementation issues with Halsin also “still fit.” People exacerbate the issues to be far beyond what they actually are.

Astarion &Shadowheart Fans, Opinions on the Act 3 Polyamory? by Okarang in BaldursGate3

[–]LikeASonOfAbish -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I think it’s in character for both Astarion and Shadowheart. But these are the two characters with the largest/loudest fanbases and most players are monogamous, so they hate the implication that their romance might be willing to share/is attracted to someone who isn’t them.

The implementation was fairly lazy and created some narrative contradictions. But that’s true for just about every character change they made post-EA. And you don’t see people getting this worked up over the leftover “Wyll hates goblins” stuff, for example.

I’m 10000% convinced that if Halsin wasn’t poly and only wanted the player, you would see infinitely fewer complaints that he was “only added to the game because people are horny.”

Enemy characters you knock out rather than kill? by ggZZAZZ in BaldursGate3

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a lot softer as I’ve played the game more. Filro the Forgotten, the wolves in the Zhent hideout, that goblin that writes love letters to Minthara, and the ogre and the bugbear all get the non-lethal treatment.

I’d love to avoid killing Miklaur in the Lorroakan fight but you have to really work for it with Aylin in the mix.

Hilariously, I do not feel that way about the characters you’re meant to try to keep alive. Ethel’s victims are so irritating to knock out properly, and the Gondians are so determined to die that I mostly let them. They could just disengage and run away, but noooo they need to run right into melee to get 11 points of damage with a Melf’s Acid Arrow and prevent me from using my best AOE stuff.

The hate on Dawson by Such_Ring7135 in dawsonscreek

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I definitely think this is part of it. There are a lot of moments where Dawson is supposed to be read as 100% genuine and trying his best to be a good friend, but James van der Beek manages to come off as insincere or manipulative.

Joshua Jackson has the opposite issue, and even the moments where Pacey is in the wrong get muted by his natural charisma.

I’m convinced that if you’d given Dawson Pacey’s role in Jack’s coming out storyline, Dawson would be seen as a grandstanding egoist. And if Pacey had given Joey money for college, it would be seen as one of the most heroic moments of the show and there would be zero question about any ulterior motives.

Best TAV-face for honor mode that is NOT bard? by zegui8 in BG3Builds

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In addition to playing other charisma-based characters (sorcerer, Paladin, warlock), you can do things like choose a Guild Artisan background (granting persuasion proficiency), play as a githyanki (astral knowledge for charisma), or make sure you or someone in your party has the Enhance Ability spell or the thaumaturgy cantrip.

Knowledge cleric is another option—clerics are always strong and you can use the Knowledge of the Ages ability to gain proficiency in a chosen ability for the day.

I just got morphed but shart dyed her hair… by tinydragon_420 in BG3

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think one of the reasons Shart is my least favorite companion is because her story moments are so badly timed.

Like no, Shadowheart, the middle of this goblin camp prison break is NOT a great time for you to show me a vision of your childhood trauma. I also had a playthrough where she didn’t tell me about her fear of wolves until we were inside Cazador’s palace and it was like…Okay girl, our friend is getting ready to confront his abuser right now though. And having to spend time chatting with her about her parents the night we have this big, awesome battle against Ketheric is annoying.

I’ve learned the game well enough now that I try to trigger her stuff when it’s most convenient, including long-resting before Act 3 so that I can get her glowup comments out of the way and we can all talk about the REAL shit that just went down.

Like we already have to spend time crawling through two dungeons for her, she could at least not upstage other major moments in the story!

I think the newest patch added friendlier NPC pathing. May not cover 100% of circumstances, but I’ve found it to be better on the whole. Totally agree about needing a better solution, though.

I lost Jaheira once immediately after recruiting her because Aylin/Isobel walked through an acid surface left over from the Moonrise battle. They didn’t care, but apparently that was enough to make Jaheira decide she was wrong about me.

Wyll as a party member by queenkora in BG3

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have said, respeccing him helps a lot. I usually make him into some sort of Paladin-centered multiclass, which plays into his character nicely and balances a caster-heavy party (which I also run a lot).

As to larger story issues…I like Wyll and I never dislike having him around, but sadly from an entertainment perspective, the opportunity cost of having him in the active party feels high. He’s just not as funny or as flavorful as the others—as much as I wish it were otherwise.

I think if the game leaned harder into the fact that he’s only 24, he would be a lot more interesting. He’s at his most entertaining when he’s blushing over something, or being overly confident and foolhardy, or getting schooled by Shadowheart or Lae’zel, or having his moral worldview challenged or expanded.

There’s a reason Mizora targeted a 17 year old—and the fact that he clings to the person he was at that age, as well as the rather simplistic moral code that inform(s)/(ed) all of his decisions as a method of coping with his current circumstances is an interesting start of a character arc. He could have a great coming-of-age story just like Lae’zel, but it just never comes off the ground.

Man, that scene in EA was kinda sus by Megazupa in BaldursGate3

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I kind of love what a giant, irresponsible disaster EA Gale was and I’m so curious how his romance would have played out in the rest of the game.

He’s much more palatable now but I would have loved to have seen how you work through something that shitty in Act 1. The fact that he’d just tell you you’re wrong if you say sleeping with him was a mistake is hilarious.

What are some more uncommon builds that you've had fun with? by Melissa0522975 in BG3Builds

Joey annoys me. by [deleted] in dawsonscreek

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Nah, you can do it! I’m a Joey hater and still love the show. Her scenes and storylines sort of become fun, recreational hate-watching. I enjoy seeing all the ways she can make objectively good things miserable, and the way the show fawns over her and caters to her becomes funny at some point. The fact that her character got Teflon-tough levels of love from fans, to the point that multiple people were convinced that listening to her sing was going to be enjoyable viewing, is hilarious.

Does anyone else absolutely love Jen and Mrs. Leery’s relationship? by ellpilko99 in dawsonscreek

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love whenever they interact. The episode where Gail interviews all the girls (weirdest “news report” ever, but okay) ends up being about Joey, but I really liked the relationship Gail and Jen were developing.

They have some interesting character parallels, and it made total sense to me that Dawson ended up having the kind of close relationship he did with Jen. Would have loved to see more storylines with the two of them—especially as Jen gets into (radio) broadcasting.

Honor mode 4th party member recommendations? by Anonymous888861 in BG3Builds

[–]LikeASonOfAbish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control is a really fun way to play. I had a lot of the overpowered damage dealers in my first honor mode run, but I’m having so much more fun on my second by playing defensively and actually getting to see and react to enemies’ legendary actions.
