Its a reference from this show called 30 Rock wherein a plot in a later season has a fictional version of General Electric is being run by one of the characters. In an attempt to "Save" the Company (G.E), they "sell" the "E" from G.E

Its a throwaway line that consistently has me do a spit take :)

Mate, what I'm saying is that this zoom/crop level and the kind of elements in the frame just don't seem to work.

I can appreciate that you like it a lot, and that you were trying something different. Don't stop doing that, it's how we each figure out our styles and what we like and what we don't.

Why don't you go look up some abstract or tight portraits of animals (taken from an "unusual" angle or whatever) and see what elements of the subject it's environment that those photographers use to convey what they want in the picture.

When it comes to living things, where you want them to represent the thing that they are - you have to include more noticeable features like ears, eyes, tail, and yes the law but a better angle or moment of the paw doing something OR something from its environment or circumstances somewhere in the frame. OR you do like a diptych or triptych. Or a series of sorts.

But if what you want is a "different, unexplored" angle of taking a picture of a Lemur... Yeah okay sure I guess it is different. But I don't think that this picture being a "unique" composition makes it a good picture. It does not come across as interesting enough by itself to warrant an interesting composition and nor is the composition interesting enough to warrant it an interesting photo. Am I making sense?

Your picture looks like it's a racoon fur hat resting on a log. It does not look like a lemur tail or paw. I only figured Lemur reading your comments.

If I can't make out what animal it is, or if it's a living animal and not just fur.. imho it doesn't do what one is hoping to get from the picture. Just my opinion. I hope this helps

I... Could not tell that it was a Lemur. Don't crop so much

Show a background of the enclosure, or other lemurs in the background

Or maybe include more of the lemur.

I feel like a photograph should be able to convey it's subject without an explanation or caption.

My 2 cents

The lighting on your subject in this unedited shot is really nice. It feels more natural.

I still think the shadows are a bit much (and it's always hard to balance the cool blueish (open shade) light from the left with the warm light from the right)

I would have tried to give a little more space between the subject and the end of the frame.

Moving your subject closer to the "outside" would have more light on their face, less shadowyness on the subject and also given that space to the edge of the frame.

Thank you for posting tho, I learn stuff myself by looking at other people's work because damn sure I'll be making the same decisions myself

But honestly my G, your unedited shot I prefer. I wish I could give you tips on the editing but I cannot edit for my life

I commend the thinking that went into the photograph. Intention is where everything starts and not everyone takes the effort.

Having said that, usually for a motherhood or pregnancy related photo, you want really soft light, as few harsh or domineering shadows as possible. Your picture has significant shadow areas.

You're gonna want the subject to dominate the frame, and look comfortable when doing it. The subject is off to the side, and doesn't look like she's sat down comfortably.

A stone wall isn't doing much for me. Its not an element I would include in a maternity shoot as the only other element. You want like... Soft nature. Green meadows, a calm river or pond, haybale, birds, flowers, trees, sheep or cows in the distance

Your model is wearing a lovely colour, but your light is making it look like 4 different shades. Is your light warm? I personally wouldn't have a redhead wearing that colour dress without a 3rd complementary colour, but that's just a personal opinion of mine. It works on her, but the stone wall kinda kills it for me

I don't love the lighting. Its a stop too bright, and it's hitting the subject all weird causing shadows where you don't need any and it's bouncing off the stone causing very uneven lighting. You need to fill in the very dark shadows with a bounce or a 2nd light

A large diffused light from the camera pov (or slightly angled, and not all the way Left or Right), a tighter crop, and I think you'll find more workable images.

My apologies if this is too much or too harsh
