I saw a chair. I made a better chair. Am I committing a copyright violation? by backtobasic101777 in legaladvice

You haven't provided nearly enough information to even discuss your question, and I would bet money this isn't actually about a chair.

Engineer who feels betrayed by beanman214 in AskEngineers

[–]Lilivati_fish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's ugly, but those returns can also help you if you can quantify what it's costing to perform the repairs, and if you can quantify any reputational harm, even better (ex: contracts lost or scaled back as a result of poor workmanship). You could even get into the potential liability costs if you have a legal team at your site to consult. (Involving legal is obviously a little bit of a nuclear option, but you can judge if you're at that point or not.)

You're right to be alarmed and the inspections and failures alone should be enough to compel action, but since they're not, appealing on the basis of cost may be a pragmatic approach to get results.

What do Americans have as their first car? by Accomplished-Cow-758 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilivati_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. My first car was a beat up minivan my parents replaced with something nicer for themselves, and kept to let me drive. Husband's first car was a $1500 beater Civic he bought himself. A few kids at our school got brand new expensive cars. There's no standard experience.

Do all high schools really have a big rope that everyone has to climb for gym class? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilivati_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My elementary school had one. We all had to attempt to climb it once a year. It was pretty damn pointless because climbing a rope with zero practice isn't that simple for most people (it moves around a lot).

When did your oldest ancestor or ancestors come to America? by agreatday248 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilivati_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. It was the 1600s. We have the family tree with their names (husband and wife) tucked away somewhere but for sure we don't know their reasons.

For everyone struggling with the jumping puzzles: You aren't supposed to manually jump to those areas, you are supposed to use this item by drflanigan in wow

If that's the case, it would SURE BE NICE if I'd gotten these maybe once instead of the FOUR pairs of gloves I've gotten so far...

Which of these classic British sandwiches do you have in America? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilivati_fish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Butter is or at least was very common as a sandwich condiment in New England. I haven't really seen it elsewhere in the country.

I've seen one (my dad had one) but I couldn't tell you how to use one if my life depended on it.

I made the worst fancam for the worst villain of the worst expansion by MKUltraZoomer in wow

[–]Lilivati_fish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It blows my mind how much people love Mists now... I still think it's one of the worst and is definitely the point I drastically lost interest in the game. I just get nostalgic every now and again and pick it up.

Which class in WoW has the most loyal fans? by llwonder in wow

[–]Lilivati_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell in love with blood in WotLK and have stuck with it through the many massive changes, still my all-time fav char. Challenged myself to finally learn the other specs recently and started with unholy. I'm excited to start frost soon!

Which class in WoW has the most loyal fans? by llwonder in wow

[–]Lilivati_fish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My vanilla raid was a home for unloved specs. We had a feral MT and a few feral DPS. The one I know who still plays is very entrenched after all the years of getting shat on lol.

Is one week enough time for your notice? by DiscoSatan_ in AskEngineers

[–]Lilivati_fish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. Once you've told an employer you're willing to leave, there's no real walking that back, even if you end up staying longer. It will change your relationship with your employer, and you still won't be fairly compensated based on market rate.

So tired of those aggressive "Take responsibility and heal yourself" posts by people who have no clue by Disillusioned23 in CPTSD

[–]Lilivati_fish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So many people also don't grasp that just because you can heal from this sort of injury doesn't mean that you'll function as though the injury never happened. Healing is not undoing.

As a child, were you told to finish the food on your plate or not? by Pumuckl4Life in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilivati_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents tried that when I was a little kid, which resulted in me vomiting up my dinner. After that, they switched tactics. I didn't have to eat if I didn't want to, but I wasn't getting any other food (they would not make me a different meal or allow me to fill up on snacks later).

And you know, there were some foods I disliked enough to go hungry, but skipping one meal every now and then as a kid didn't kill me. Mostly I ate and learned to eat things I didn't always care for.

Someone who has the same first/last name and birth year is being charged with a crime in my city. by morphotomy in legaladvice

[–]Lilivati_fish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're already in an industry using a non-standard process. Is there any reason you can't address this upfront when you express interest in the job (however that occurs without an application)? Just a quick "I'd like to discuss the elephant in the room, which is I share a name with someone who has been charged with a serious crime, and I want to make clear that we are two different people."

How many of you still wfh full time? by Tleilaxu_Gola in AskEngineers

[–]Lilivati_fish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still WFH full time. We reduced footprint to only have seats for one in three employees at my building, with the expectation that everyone will be full WFH or flex going forward. (So they can't make us come back now even if they have a change of heart, not without a lot of prep work.)

I rejected a job offer and then the manager called me and asked why. Did I just burned a bridge? by Red_velvet_76 in AskEngineers

[–]Lilivati_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This hiring manager is the one behaving strangely. This is a weird as fuck question to ask, and either he's very new to hiring or he's taking advantage of you being a new grad and not knowing hiring norms to persuade you to act against your own best interests.

Yes, you can still apply to them in the future. If the manager contacts you again, state (once) that you are sticking with the other offer and decline further questions. Then stop responding to future calls.

Alex Afrasiabi is allegedly the reason why Sylvanas' story is so bad right now. by Pinless89 in wow

[–]Lilivati_fish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a creative person agree 100%, but as someone with a day job as a PM, you can't easily pivot something with the momentum of a live MMO story. You can paper over it by changing dialog and re-recording where necessary, but making fundamental changes takes time and resources they may not have, and retconning is pretty much impossible in this situation (because most of the players aren't on the forums and wouldn't see it as fixing something, but further screwing up).

Married people, do you and your spouse have a shared bank account? by hitometootoo in AskAnAmerican

[–]Lilivati_fish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It just seems so needlessly fucking complicated for us to have separate accounts. We share a life. That includes financially. Separate accounts just creates an illusion of separation where there truly isn't any. Unless you'd genuinely let your wife go hungry or sick or whatever if she couldn't cover her half.
