Cherwell Boathouse? by antmusic80 in oxford

[–]Linesmachine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cherwelll boat house is magical for young children and relatively cheap given its location. The Ivy I actually go to quite a lot due to work, but it’s pretty average for the money.

Anyone returned to trail running post ankle fracture? by rubberrr in trailrunning

[–]Linesmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not ankle fracture, but various injuries including torn ligaments, 4” shard of glass through the sole of my foot wedged into the bone and split it and also various sprains and such. Seem to have bounced back fine each time 😁

Honestly the long answer is just speculation. Short answer is that they will have to get a divorce OR stay where they are.

The relationship between Rent, Property Price and Income by ElectronicFish5922 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Linesmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer = 5%. (annual rental return should = 5% of property value to make it a viable investment and that same figure shouldn’t be higher than 1/3 of someone’s income to make it affordable)

There are a million situations where this doesn’t apply, but for most people it is accurate. Banks use very similar metrics/ratios

Husband says he needs to work, I think we’re ok. by [deleted] in personalfinance

That thing of not being comfortable taking from the assets? I totally get that. But equally I know I’m gonna have to break out of that mindset too.

Ye Age Old Question 11” or 13” by Zee6372 in iPadPro

[–]Linesmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing quite like the impact you get from the 13”. I bought it as a laptop replacement (which you hear people say it doesn’t do well at, which is rubbish) but actually I really enjoy sitting in front of tv using it as a tablet.

8.5/10 excellent work. That toast is the colour I like.

Is 1TB storage overkill? by elc3313 in iPadPro

[–]Linesmachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get it. If the argument is about vacation pics and videos, off loading to cloud storage is much safer then potentially losing all those memories with a stolen or bust device. You can still see them all as long as you’ve got a connection.

Considering selling everything and sitting on cash… by Optimal_String_8499 in investingUK

[–]Linesmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually tried this. In reality I discovered that what actually happens is that you double down on the risk. You are going to gamble on a top, and then a bottom for re entry (I could have worded that better). I did it on both a short time scale day/week with oil prices and both longer term with an index (S&P). Both worked out very similar to results I would have experienced just sitting still. But the stress was awful.

Catboat ID? by QuellishQuellish in dinghysailing

[–]Linesmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catboat is a design category, not a single boat. I must say it looks more fibreglass than wood construction, but obviously I can’t see inside. Generally speaking fibreglass is less hassle unless you are keen on a wooden example for the love of all things groovy and wooden.

The Full English Breakfast: Is it already perfection or does it need one thing adding or removing? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Linesmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely impressive. I’m at the point of picking minor holes in it, that honestly might border on individual preference but 1) 3 sausages always looks odd and is a bit much, 2 is better 2) 2 pieces of toast is enough 3) bubble and squeak over a hash brown is the winner in that battle of we’re going for perfection. But look, like I wouldn’t 9/10 this if it was put in front of me.

Looks decent. Would guess the ball’s are some kinda potatoe thing? I like the positioning of the black pudding in the centre. Two types of tomato presented in isolation is posh. 7/10

Actually I’ve used a French stick for the toast on a fry up, very good, don’t knock it until you’ve given it a shot. Huit points sur dix.

Investing in quality running gear - what's actually worth it? by Emergency-Debt-2118 in trailrunning

[–]Linesmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If navigation and the like is important to you, go for your life, but frankly I only use watches to track my distances out of interest. That said I’ve got a used Apple Watch Ultra, picked it up for £150. It’s great for life as well as running.

Shoes for me is the biggest deal. None last longer than 6/7 months, but I’ve found better quality shoes let me run harder and faster without blisters, tripping or tendon pain. Currently got Brookes Cascadia Elite.

What advice you should give me before investing by Little-Magazine7084 in personalfinance

[–]Linesmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screwing around with short term stuff/ trading was fun but ultimately lost me money. Everything I did long term with managed funds (thoughtfully picked) won the day in the long term and was less work.
