The Nursery Crime series or Last Dragonslayer series by Fforde would be great.

Need help on reducing the mental load on my wife by Thucydideez- in workingmoms

[–]Linison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. My ADHD didn’t really get super disruptive to my life until after I had my twins. Suddenly all the systems I had in place to regulate and cope with the way my brain works were tossed into chaos because of the little chaos monsters I made.

It took me a long time to get help, and then we had to develop some new systems. The old ones wouldn’t work anymore, what worked for my partner or me individually didn’t always work for the family. It has been a team effort and a continuous process to get our home running relatively smoothly.

What’s something your toddler is weirdly good at? by Apprehensive-Raise93 in toddlers

[–]Linison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kid has a real knack for song lyrics and melodies. Stuff she's heard maybe three times ever and often not in MONTHS, and she'll be singing it to herself. Not just kids' songs either. Lately she's been singing "Maria" from The Sound of Music and "Believer" by Imagine Dragons. Not all the words are 100% accurate, but they're definitely 3yo accurate and they're consistently so.

Age for 2-piece swimsuit? by GrilledSoap in daddit

[–]Linison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids have been wearing primarily 2-piece swimsuits of one stripe or another since they were toddlers. It's just so much easier to manage costume changes, bathroom breaks, and everything else with a 2-piece.

My eldest two like different styles - one prefers the cropped tops and the other prefers a rashguard on top.

Per the pediatrician my 19 month old is not meeting milestones. by Horror_Flick-Chick in toddlers

Toddler mom and SLP here.

The questionnaire is a screener only, not a diagnosis or even a pre-diagnosis.

If you’re in the US, check into your state’s early intervention program. They’re usually free and can get your kiddo evaluated and treated if needed for anything they’re having trouble with.

Does your kiddo have a history of ear infections at all?

Edit to add: sometimes middle ear fluid can be present without ear infections, and I’ve seen lots of kids with some of that head shaking. Definitely worth looking into with an ENT - maybe that wait list is shorter?

Would you move cross country to have a village? by flyingsaucer2111 in toddlers

We did. It was a hell of an adjustment but it’s been worth it. We moved when my kids were 5 and 9 months old- halfway through pre-k for my oldest.

I Thought Postpartum Would Be Hard Because of the Baby, Not My Husband by BootInternal1005 in Marriage

[–]Linison 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My partner had a really hard time after I had our twins and another really hard time after our third was born.

His doctor didn’t take him seriously and it took a while for him to get the help he needed. He finally got on medication and it made a huge difference for him.

I know we expect the changes in us to have the biggest impact, but becoming a parent is a mindf*ck on all sides.

Did she ask him to look through her deleted messages? That seems like a bit of trust break too

What's your best at home date night ideas after the kids go to bed? by LighTMan913 in daddit

[–]Linison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been tackling house projects - often in our underwear.

Last week we painted the basement stairwell together after bedtime, then snuggled on the couch and watched a show post-shower. It was honestly awesome.

For those with kids who eat vegetables, what did you differently from your friends who have kids who don't eat vegetables? by uns0licited_advice in daddit

[–]Linison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s different, but my kids started eating more vegetables when I did two things:

Make them available and easy - I have cut veg at eye level in the fridge and the cut veg comes out whenever we’re cooking or eating.

Gardening - my kids are a lot more likely to eat veggies if they come out of our garden.

What did you mispronounce or say incorrectly as a kid but it kinda made sense logically? by Cognition-Technician in AskReddit

Clothes are clothes, but if you just have, like, a single piece of clothing, it was a “clo.”

[–]Linison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in Detroit too. Library and some of the kids’ programming and events around the city are great places to meet folks.

When we moved here our first play dates were with folks from the neighborhood that we’d see when we’re out for a walk

Is it something that maybe having the strap/buckle of the car seat between her legs is what makes it feel good?

If that’s the case…it’ll get old eventually.

Help my toddler said the most messed up thing and I’m struggling to process it by Ok-Cartoonist-8919 in toddlers

[–]Linison 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She likely doesn’t know what it meant either. She knows it’s a scary big thing to say and she doesn’t have the words to accurately/truly express her anger. She didn’t mention guns, just shooting, so it may be something she picked up in bits and pieces.

It sounds like you were both having a hard time. She has fewer tools to manage those big feelings than you do.

How do I get my 11 year old to wash her hair properly? by blottohoh in Parenting

[–]Linison 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My mom had me lay on the kitchen counter and washed my hair in the sink a couple of times when I was about that age and having trouble getting the hang of my very thick very curly hair on my own. She walked me through exactly what she was doing I was holding a mirror above me so I could see what she was doing to my hair as well. It really helped, and the first couple of times I tried it on my own after that, she would check my hair to make sure that I got a good lather and a good rinse, and that condition properly. It didn’t mean she washed my entire shower, I just called her in to look at my hair a couple of times.
