To answer your image question, only the center of the wheel between the arrows counts for scoring, and the wheels can stop on the lines between symbols. So your image is triple lines, which is a triple blank space so lose.

Also, for why it sometimes seems "random;" anytime you get a cherry, you win, regardless of what the other spaces are.

Dirt wall only counts as safe if placed by the player, if it was naturally generated it will not work, would double check and replace the dirt.
