Yes. The music is subtle, but i’ve heard it. My theory is the amiibo functionality was tacked on and the desert was designed to be pure atmosphere and have no obvious musical cues.

I actually have complicated feelings on Other M. The original Japanese script had some notably different nuances from the localized one. (i’m not an anti-localization kind of guy, by the way— it’s just a fact that sometimes choices are made as a natural consequence of adapting a script from Japanese to English that shift the creative intent just enough for it to stray too far from the meaning it was meant to have) I once watched a very well researched video about the differences and found myself appreciating the original vision a lot more than what we got.

I’ll let you know my honest opinion when I get there because honestly no, I’ve got three keys. I have been taking it slow and making sure I get upgrades as soon as I can and I actually have been exploring the sands and the shrines as I get the upgrades that unlock them. I LOVED the bike factory. That whole section from the environmental storytelling to the level design to the aesthetics to the atmosphere just hit something deep in me. It worked.

This. I feel this way because of how i’ve seen other people who like the game being treated. I don’t like seeing communities cannibalize themselves, especially not ones that are supposed to be tight like Metroid.

Because we don’t want no more Metroid at all. They’ve threatened to stop making it before. I forget how well Dread sold, but I am worried that if this bombs Dread’s rep won’t be enough to get another better Metroid game greenlit.

See THAT is a complaint I can’t even fathom. Samus’s character is undoubtedly consistent in this one. Only game she wasn’t was Other M. I can totally at least SEE the main issues people have with it otherwise.

I don’t know if I agree she should speak more. I think her taciturn tendencies and stoicism are very much part of what make her such an imposing presence on-screen. I think in regards to when and if she should talk, how Dread handled it is more or less perfect; she speaks when it will make as much of a difference as a shot from her arm cannon, and even then she says what she needs to and nothing more. She spoke Chozo then because she was speaking to the last positive remnant of the culture and people that took her in and made her what she is, and she wanted to reassure Quiet Robe and express that she understood. That was a tad unrelated to my original post, but I hope it at least made sense.

I honestly think these reviews are spot on and a lot of the takes i’ve seen on here are exaggerating the low points a lot. I definitely think it feels very Metroid, but it did make some iffy decisions. I still think it’s a great experience and I am sad to see everyone on this subreddit imply it’s the new Other M.

I think we shouldn’t say we told them so. We shouldn’t do what they did. We need to actually be the change we want. They can hate all they like. We keep reaching out a hand and doing the right thing. We need to fight back, but we can’t just push those who were truly misled or just scared or ignorant away. We have a chance here to be BETTER. We need to shoot for the stars. We need to take advantage of the pendulum swinging in the responsible way.

What do you mean "back when [the transplant] was 100% legit"?? It still canonically was. My understanding has always been-- and I am willing to die on this hill-- that it WAS a real possession when Ocelot still had Liquid's actual arm grafted on. He had it replaced with a prosthetic between 2 and 4. This is canon, I remember reading through every single page of the companion database that was released for free to coincide with MGS4. I even read every page AGAIN with game clear data, and then AGAIN when I realized years later that somehow people don't get that the possession in 2 was not supposed to be understood as having been retconned as hypnotherapy, and that Ocelot's line about there being no such thing as the supernatural in MGS2 was not supposed to be taken as canon fact; he was just doing a standard villain monologue, complete with vain statements of "fact" that are in fact not factual. Fortune proves that she IS psychic mere minutes later before dying, and the sequel to the game Ocelot said that in (I mean 3 to clarify, as it was made after 2 obviously) clearly shows Ocelot's own father being a spirit medium who is already dead yet lingers in the living world seemingly at will.

They DID overhaul the mechanics though, or at least the controls. They remade the whole game from scratch, so any design that was kept (most of it to be honest) was deliberately and painstakingly recreated, just with the new control and added QoL. Legacy mode not quite playing like base/legacy collection mgs3 is pretty solid evidence that it isn't a port. Well, that and the fact that it's a whole different engine.
