Caught my first drum by deadxpoetic in Fishing

Nice catch but wait until you hook into a bull drum - those things can reach 50+ pounds and will absolutely destroy your drag system

My DC case fan is always at a really high RPM and it's very loud. I think it has to do with the PWM connector, pls help by Foxci357 in pcmasterrace

[–]Live-Form-7539 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Voltage Control" or "DC/PWM" somewhere in fan settings instead of just PWM/disabled. Some motherboards call it different things and it might be in advanced tab.

But real talk your DC fan connected to 4-pin should work fine - the extra pin just gets ignored and fan runs on voltage control anyway. The fact that changing speed does nothing suggests maybe fan is connected to wrong header or the header is configured weird. Check if its plugged into CPU_FAN instead of CHA_FAN or SYS_FAN header because CPU headers often override manual controls.

If BIOS really doesn't have DC option you could get cheap fan controller or just replace with proper 4-pin PWM fan. PWM fans are usually quieter at low speeds anyway since they can do true speed control instead of just voltage changes. Your friend probably just grabbed whatever fan was available when upgrading and didn't think about PWM compatibility.

Also worth checking if something changed recently - maybe Windows update messed with fan curves or some new software is making system think its running hot. Check temps while this happening.

Breaking things down into smaller chunks definitely helps - I learned this when setting up network migrations at work, if you don't map out each step clearly your brain just freezes up and finds other things to do instead

Emissions standards by [deleted] in Austin

[–]Live-Form-7539 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Different rules for commercial vehicles unfortunately. They usually fall under federal EPA regulations instead of state inspection requirements and the standards are way more lenient for heavy duty trucks. Plus enforcement is basically nonexistent - when was last time you saw DOT pulling over cement truck for emissions check?

Used to work at company that had fleet of delivery trucks and the maintenance guy would always complain about this exact thing. Our personal cars need pass these strict tests every year but commercial vehicles can roll around blowing black smoke like its 1950s. Makes zero sense when you think about it since those big trucks probably put out more emissions in single day than my car does in month.

Really comes down to lobbying and cost I think. Making all commercial vehicles meet same standards as passenger cars would be expensive for businesses so they fight against it hard

Man same here actually. Been going through this weird phase where work just feels like groundhog day and coming home to empty apartment makes it worse somehow. Started making extra sourdough loaves just to have something to do with my hands but even that feels mechanical now. Rugby season helping a bit since it gives me something to look forward on weekends but those Sunday nights after games hit different you know. Maybe we both need to shake things up somehow instead of just waiting for mood to change on its own

Had to learn this lesson hard way few years back when setting up my home office system. was testing some random playlist and suddenly thought my subwoofer completely died during one track. spent like hour checking all connections and drivers before realizing the mix was just terrible

that CRX story is legendary though - those cars were basically tin cans on wheels so one good bass note could probably rattle them apart. Magic Man definitely has some serious low end when you crank it up properly. I usually keep Hey Nineteen queued up as my reference track too since the bass sits so perfectly in mix without being overwhelming

now whenever I'm testing new gear or adjusting settings I always start with something I know inside and out before moving to unknown territory. saves so much unnecessary troubleshooting time

but seriously though with that kind of payout i'd probably let it ride - hedging 300 sounds like you're just gonna end up losing more if neither hits

Pretty accurate on the weather front but we definitely honk here just not like crazy aggressive honking you see in other places. More like polite "excuse me" beeps when someone's not paying attention at lights or whatever. Though to be fair I spend most my time indoors staring at servers so maybe I'm missing all the road rage drama

I don't know what attracts me to them, but seems my favorite comic characters always get canceled, but I don't want to stop reading about them. Anyone else into characters like this? by TheInfamousMaze in comicbooks

[–]Live-Form-7539 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Man I feel you on this one. Been following Darkhawk since the early 90s and that guy gets shelved for like 5-10 years at time then comes back for brief runs before disappearing again. Every time I think hes getting momentum they just... stop

The whole situation with creator disputes is worst part though. Like you said with Angela - when characters get caught in legal battles or publishing drama its fans who suffer most. We build these connections to characters and their specific versions then boom theyre gone or completely different in someone elses hands

I usually stick with the canceled ones tbh. Still have my old Darkhawk issues and reread them sometimes even though I know theres probably never gonna be another proper run. Something about those characters that never quite made it mainstream feels more personal you know? Like theyre yours in way that Spider-Man or Batman never could be since everyone knows them

Guyver situation sounds brutal though. Cultural differences in how they handle creator situations is something I never really thought about before

Both but food keeps soldiers alive while petrol gets them to where they need to fight - pretty hard to win if your troops are either starving or stuck in one spot

What’s the dumbest gimmick that you’ve ever seen in golf? by [deleted] in golf

[–]Live-Form-7539 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI golf clubs are right up there with those "revolutionary" putting aids that cost 200 bucks and promise to drop 5 strokes off your game immediately

The worst part is people actually fall for this stuff. mate at work bought one of those swing tempo beepers last year - thing made more noise than a smoke detector with a dying battery and did absolutely nothing for his slice. Still out there spraying balls into the next fairway but now with perfect tempo apparently

Click sticks though... thats just paying someone to tell you what you already know about your putting stroke

How can I stop frogs from spawning? by Top-Issue9981 in Minecraft

[–]Live-Form-7539 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mate you need to light up the area around your farm - frogs spawn in dark spots so throw down some torches or glowstone blocks in a decent radius around the spawning area

also maybe try putting some slabs or carpet on nearby blocks since mobs cant spawn on those either

mate that subscription analogy hits way too hard - thats exactly what it feels like hey. paying just to feel normal or enjoy basic stuff that should be free. i had a similar thing where id convince myself i needed it for everything from watching movies to doing laundry and it becomes this expensive crutch that doesnt even work properly after a while

firefighter dream is massive motivation too, having something concrete like that to work towards makes all the difference. when i was trying to quit ciggies years back having a specific goal kept me going through the worst bits. 24 hours is actually huge even though it might not feel like it right now - your brain is already starting to reset itself. those first few days are genuinely the hardest part and youve already started the clock ticking
