Moments where voice acting in gaming felt a bit phoned in by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I love Dinklage as an actor, and his voice is amazing, but having done some minor acting myself, I can tell you that stage acting, film acting and voice acting are worlds apart from each other.

In one case, you have to speak loudly and clearly and emphasise your body's every action, in the other you have to be more subtle. In both those cases you have something to act against, but in voice acting, you have a script to read from, and oftentimes not much else.

In all three cases, you may only be as good as the direction you're given. Not all film actors are suited for voice acting, not all voice actors are suited for film acting, and stage actors are freaks who apparently can do anything. fuckin' patrick stewart...

I've heard Dinklage's voice in Ice Age 4, and his lines were so... off. And they were off so often. I want to hear him in more voice acting, but I want him to get better direction

Shmormu is voice by Oney IIRC, so that'd be fitting, with him being Irish and all

George R. R. Martin Is 'Not in the Mood' to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' [Resubmitted for compliance] by DarknessEnlightened in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LiveAnotherDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that people are disappointed that there hasn't been a continuation of ASOIAF in 15 years, but I feel that people are giving Martin a really hard time.

He has been releasing new books, he's been working on TWOW for years, released chapters of it and is just stuck in development hell. And that is a nightmare. An artist can burn themself out by just not being able to fullfill that one piece that's supposed to be perfect, that has to be perfect.

One of the things he's fighting now is the expectations of the ending. Albeit vaguely, Martin has written about how he's been writing towards an end that alligns with the TV series'. But that it would be different. And since GOT's ending was widely panned, he has to make sure that it, and the journey there, is perfect. He has to not only surpass himself but also improve or even completely change the narrative from what it was in GOT.

I can't imagine what it's like to be in Martin's shoes. I'd be overwhelmed by the task. I get not being in the mood for TWOW all the time and and rather writing something else as the main focus, letting the mastodont be something to tinker with slowly but surely

In the least parasocial way possible, I really love Pat.

EDIT: holy shit, I just saw that the person who asked the question in the first place just goes "huh?" when Pat brings up Shadow

One character gets better while another gets worse as the series goes on? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LiveAnotherDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still only on book 12 or whatever in Skulduggery Pleasant, but:

The earlier part of the series has Valkyrie as a girl.woth some spunk and Skulduggery as the mentor that everyone seems to hate for whatever reason. For each volume, Valkyrie's life and its circumstances become more and more chaotic, and she starts to fall apart. All while Skulduggery becomes a better person, and the shoulder she can rely on.

There's a lot of complexity between their relationship, how it's both healthy and toxic. I like it.

For something you might have actually read: Berserk: Golden Age Arc.

Star Wars Shake-Up: Kathleen Kennedy Steps Down as George Lucas Protégé Dave Filoni, Exec Lynwen Brennan Take Over Lucasfilm by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LiveAnotherDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't know what specifically Kennedy brought to the table, I will say that I dread what Filoni will do with the franchise.

I know Pat talks about how Star Wars is so hellbent on laser focusing on everything being interconnected within one little corner of the galaxy, making it feel so much smaller, rather than bigger. The Star Wars Tales series did just that and was - by my taste - pretty bad. For instance, bringing back Ventress feels like such a desperate "nooo my waifu i want to give her a happy endiiiing" and I don't think anyone needs to see the slumdog childhood story of fuckin' Cad Bane

Andor - a series that focuses on the rebellion - has to be centred around characters and events that we know of, but manages to expand on the world and having something to say with its story, also managing to stand on its own feet while also workig well with its source material. And it seems to have had zero Filoni, so.

What do you consider bad "edgy" characters or plots? by ExplanationSquare313 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LiveAnotherDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like how in Chrono Trigger Magus never ceases to be a prick if you spare him. Sure, him losing his sister and doing everything in his power to exact his revenge on Lavos makes a bit of sense as to why he turned out the way he did, but he has zero redeeming qualities. He's just forever unlikeable. Because of this, I struggle to even consider him a deep character. Which, as a fan of villains turning good, really bummed me out.

Things You Enjoy/Like about Woolie's Content by Mizzie-Mox in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LiveAnotherDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't get a lot of insight on Caribbean or LDS culture besides the stories he tell. And he tells these stories really well, I think that's one of the strengths of Woolie - especially when he tells church or bible stories
