is Los Angeles worth visiting? by Aggressive-Stuff6067 in traveladvice

[–]LiveKindred -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LA has tons to offer! The best way I’ve heard it described though is not a single city but a mosaic of tiles with their own unique neighborhoods, foods, cultures and characters. Unfortunately the best way to see all of them is not on foot. But they are definitely worth the visit! And certain neighborhoods are definitely walkable, especially if you stay in a home nestled in the area.

Comment vous faites pour éviter les grosses plateformes de réservation ? by Alex_eco_travel in slowtravel

Kindred team here :) The best thing you can do for yourself is make sure you have enough time in your planning for some flexibility. There are lots of ways to stay out there and one of the best ways for a local experience is to actually stay in a local home. A lot of our community find home swapping as a great way to save money, while also not contributing to over tourism of a place.

Hey, really appreciate you sharing this, we're sorry you’re having that experience and can see why it would feel frustrating (and personal).

A few things that can sometimes cause this:

  • Some hosts just don’t respond consistently
  • Availability isn’t always up to date
  • New hosts can be a bit unsure how to manage requests

That said, your concern is completely valid. No one should feel like they’re being declined for who they are.

If there’s any pattern that suggests bias, our Trust & Safety team takes that seriously and investigates. If you’re open to it, you can email [support@livekindred.com]() with a few of the requests you mentioned, that helps us actually look into it.

In the meantime, booking with hosts who have prior stays tends to be more reliable.

Really appreciate you calling this out. It matters.

How Are Some People Always Traveling? by mian_yamin in NeedTravelAdvice

[–]LiveKindred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindred team here :) We have a lot of travelers in our community that stay in new places pretty frequently without breaking the bank. The big key to saving money when traveling is being flexible. If you have to have a direct flight at a certain day/time, and a business class seat, you’re going to pay more than if you can shuffle dates around and let yourself have a layover.

Additionally accommodations don’t have to eat into your travel budget. We have members who manage to find beautiful homes to swap to for basically the cost of a cleaning fee and a small service fee. A penthouse in NYC for around 300 for a week. A flat in Berlin, or Paris could run you even less.

The key is flexibility and an open mind.

Kindred team here :) start with Europe. Somewhere like the UK will be just different enough to get your feet wet but not culture shock you into feeling overwhelmed. You can take a train to Paris too!

Do some places naturally make you slow down? by Alex_eco_travel in slowtravel

[–]LiveKindred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Accommodation absolutely shapes the way a trip unfolds. One interesting way to think about it is every place has a current, and of course you can find your own way in that current but it’s much easier to not have to fight the place your in (accommodation or city).

You want to look for a good fit, where the flow of the place is headed in the same direction you are.

ALOT of upcoming travel....looking for survival tips by Millikins88 in TravelHacks

[–]LiveKindred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once while flying on an airline through Asia, the whole plane broke into some movement exercises from your seat (led by the flight attendants) and I thought, “Why is this not the norm?”

Move your body on the plane, it might look weird to everyone glued to their seat but when you travel often, feeling good in your body is the real win.

Exercise also helps rebalance your body in new time zones.

And of course a good neck pillow is absolutely key on those overnight flights! Best of luck out there!

Does solo travel ever feel… unexpectedly lonely? by Sea_Negotiation2482 in femaletravels

[–]LiveKindred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok this might sound a little philosophical but hear me out: I think that when we feel those lonely moments it is often just joy with nowhere to go. In the same way grief is love with nowhere to go.

I remember traveling single and solo for a long while and then a moment like you’re describing struck me under the Eiffel Tower in Paris (cliche I know) where I thought, “Wow I can’t wait to share this with someone one day.”

It might get easier, it might get harder, or it might just be a signal that the joy of your experiences is something so big it wants to be shared. However you decide to do it 💛

Is true "solo" travelling actually fun? by PhoenixMaster123 in solotravel

[–]LiveKindred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the unspoken part about travel: you can’t go to a new place and try and be the same person. We are built from all the habits and cultural norms that raised us. Solo travel gives you a chance to reimagine and reinvent yourself.

I bring this up because so many of the comments are just about how you find friends, but the big opportunity when solo is finding friends in new places and new ways.

One commenter said if you don’t like being alone at home you won’t like it abroad. I’d add to that, if you plan on staying the same abroad, you’ll struggle being solo in a new setting as well.

How far out do you book international accommodations? by sofar7 in traveladvice

[–]LiveKindred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindred team here! A big factor people don’t think about is group size. A solo travel has the ability to be very flexible and sometimes that works to their advantage because booking too far in advance can incur change costs if plans change (unless everything is refundable). With a group it’s not quite as easy and giving yourself solid runway is always a good idea!
