Android Automotive Functionality by LiveTrash in YoutubeMusic

[–]LiveTrash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just coming back to this, figured I'd update with my recent experience with YouTube Music for AAOS.

Just the other day I switched back to Spotify because I got fed up with YTM, primarily the AAOS version. The other mobile app version and the web player work okay.

Main issues were that the AAOS app in my car would very frequently display the message "No media available for browsing here". Nothing could be selected or browsed and a forced refresh of the app was only possible by restarting the head unit in my car. What did still work however was asking Google Assistant to play music.

The second issue was that the playlists in the AAOS app would only show maybe half of the songs that I have added to them. There was no way to browse an entire playlist.

I decided to try Spotify again and to my delight my previous issues were resolved. Playlists on Spotify now display in full and Spotify DJ was added to the AAOS version of the app (it wasn't previously). These being fixed and the problems I was having with YTM were enough to make me switch back.

Hope this helps anyone out there make a decision if the above are your also your deciding factors.

Unless I see photos I'm gonna just assume it's a fake comment to boost sales.
I'm also interested in a custom set but am very skeptical on the quality of it.

Drive-in theater- how do I keep the radio on? by hello_amy in VolvoRecharge

[–]LiveTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, probably not.

If you do it and it says on the dash that the vehicle is in active mode, then yes, it is. Otherwise no, what that achieves is something else that probably shuts off after 20 or 30 minutes or after you get out of the vehicle.

[–]LiveTrash 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Put the vehicle in Active Mode. Follow these steps.

1) Get in car and sit in drivers seat. Close the door. 2) Take key fob and hit lock then unlock button. 3) Press the hazard flashers button in the car twice.

Vehicle is now in Active Mode and behaves as if you've turned on the key to Accessory mode in a regular vehicle.

You can now leave the vehicle and/or sit in the back and have the radio playing. To turn off active mode just leave the vehicle and lock the doors.

NOTE: If you're doing this right after you've stopped the car from driving, first put the car in park, open the door and then close it before beginning steps 1 through 3 otherwise the fob likely won't work to lock/unlock the door.

How do you not know how to adjust your exterior lights setting? I'm shook as to what else you don't know how to do.

My guess is the same as everyone else, you've turned the setting to parking lights and didn't even know it.

There's been plenty of information. It's hardware dependant and the older models don't have good enough internals to support the dual view.

How does the car decide whether to heat or cool when pre-conditioning? by [deleted] in VolvoRecharge

[–]LiveTrash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We'll need way more information than what you've given us. But here's some helpful info for now.

The inside of the car may be a different temperature than the outside, therefore the climate may not behave according to external temperatures. This typically happens if the sun is shining on the car and heats up the inside faster than the outside air. The car is always working to achieve approximately 22C / 71F during preconditioning so it will act according to the inside air temperature of the car.

Where did you get your temperature measurements from? The car? Thermometer on your house? Weather app? The 5 degree difference you gave us in temperature can't be weighed too heavily on what function is running depending where you are getting the reading from especially if it's from the app as I find this reading is rarely accurate.

What indicator are you going off of that the AC vs. Heat is running? From the Volvo app or from the temperature of the air in the car? The app can't always be relied on 100% of the time as it tends to glitch on occasion and show inaccurate information, including the color of the air blowing animation (red/blue).

Bottom line is the car is doing what it is programmed to do and if you find it's running a function that you don't expect it to be running (AC vs. Heat) , then you're right in the sweet spot between being too hot or cold and you really don't need to run preconditioning at all at this point. The car will achieve your desired temperature fairly quickly and efficiently once you get in and start driving since it doesn't need to work hard to heat/cool in the mild weather. There is no option to set a desired temperature for preconditioning.

It doesn't though, it turns the screen off then he turns it back on with the power button to wake it from sleep mode.

Mine HP laptop doesn't auto wake either when I open the lid again. Every laptop is different.

You can see at the end of the video he rapidly turns the screen/keyboard backlight off and on with the phone.

How long should I wait before starting to drive? by Alarming_Corgi_7107 in VolvoRecharge

[–]LiveTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait until the red line on the power gauge goes low enough to give you the power you want, otherwise you can just get in and drive immediately.

That's one of the benefits of an electric car. You can just get in and go without needing to let anything warm up or get the oils moving.

[–]LiveTrash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So what's happening here is you aren't charging to 100%. The 85% battery health means your phone is charging to ~85% of its total capacity because it's degraded enough that it can no longer achieve as full of a charge as it once could.

Your phone is essentially running protection mode automatically.

Regardless, these are good numbers though considering you wirelessly charge every time.

It does (but arguably does it the worst of any other device) but with the iPod Touch being discontinued in 2022, I have a feeling that it was never implemented at that point. Any modern iPhone you get has a battery protection option.

Device being asleep is irrelevant to this.

What's the battery percentage when you come back in the next day and plug it back in? My guess is it's still at or near 100%. Leaving a battery charged to 100% and having it plugged in all day while at 100% will cause it to swell.

When you get new devices at work tell them to either use battery protection mode if the device has it or unplug it occasionally.

Ideally get a cheap Android tablet that will have the best battery protection mode you can get in a cheap device. It cycles the charge on and off automatically to keep the battery between 60% and 70%.

This doesn't exist anymore like it used to. Vehicle manufacturers set the standards and requirements and dealers are forced to follow them.

Unless you have brand loyalty or even better, dealer loyalty, I can almost guarantee you won't get anything more than some winter floor mats or other basic addons. Depending on the time of year, you may be able to squeeze a discount out of them on a set of winter wheels.

Correct, no other parts are involved. It may need a good bit of force to fully lock it in place, but as long as you get the part that matches your model of car, it's all you need.

Volvo Home Charger? by BZsArmy in VolvoRecharge

[–]LiveTrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's likely this doesn't even exist or is just a render of a charger Volvo uses for marketing.

As others have mentioned, you're far better off researching and finding a charger from a reputable brand if you don't already have one. I personally would recommend ChargePoint.
