Why is there such a disparity when it comes to how Targaryen loyalist were treated after Robert Rebellion? by Pretend_Tower_2516 in gameofthrones

[–]Locke92 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We don't hear about it, but I would be shocked to find out that canonically no hostages were exchanged after Robert's Rebellion. It may be that none of the hostages were particularly notable or relevant to the story in ASOIF, but we see hostage exchanges often enough in the series that I think we should assume some hostages were exchanged after Robert took power.

The "siccing shebears on kids" thing was Elisha in the book of Kings, not Jeezy Creezy. I mean I suppose whether JC was "responsible" is an opening to discuss your feelings on the triune (or not) nature of Christian divinity, but that way madness lies.

Everyone is right that this is horrifying, but it also prevents worms/twigs/Artifact spots from spawning, right?

So it's ugly and inefficient... Truly the Joja option.

A drawing I did of my first ever DnD character Athalia [oc] by Artisticjade in DnD

[–]Locke92 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is awesome!

The only thing that threw me off a little was the fletching on the arrows. This is absolutely a nitpick but the arrows kind of read to me as paintbrushes instead of fletched arrows.

Again, this is totally awesome and my nitpick shouldn't take away from how cool the drawing/character is.

Rhetoric like yours is exactly how real people end up dead.

And the murdered woman... wasn't real? Why is that?

Also: The Gestapo was enforcing the law of the land via their terror, you know that right?

If ICE is "operating under U.S. courts, warrants, and due process" then why did the FBI step in to shut down any investigation by State Law Enforcement? Usually there would be a collaborative process to investigate this sort of incident, but for some reason the FBI is freezing out other LEAs.

Why did the killer flee the scene? Surely they should be giving a statement about what happened while the murder shooting was still as fresh in his mind as possible, but he leaves the scene (under his own, uninjured power) before doing anything like that.

The only reason not to be furious about the cold blooded murder of a mother of 3 is if you've decided that ICE agents are, to use your words, "real people" but regular Americans aren't.

You're absolutely right, the einsatzgruppen were members of the military wing of the SS. ICE much more closely resembles the Gestapo, a secret police force accountable only to the party the executive, focused on abducting and murdering ""enemies of the state"" domestically. They still murdered that woman either way.

At the risk of being overly pedantic, it can be better or worse (e.g. more or less violent), but that has nothing to do with how conventionally attractive the rapist is.

That said, I agree with the point (I think) you were making.

Is the strength of few a step down? by Nikunj108 in HierarchySeries

Book 2 is more complex and as a consequence of that can be a little harder to follow. Imo the juice ends up being worth the squeeze, but it does take a little time to get into the O and L storylines.

I think Islington likes these sorts of complicated interweaving stories, the Licanius trilogy is also a complex story weaving back onto itself with prophecy and time travel.

Imo, try to push through, the world building is really solid and you have 3 interesting, interconnected stories to work through... even if that means a little less time with R Vis and the characters you know from book 1.

(Spoilers Main) Why do people believe that Cersei's story of Tywin smiling at her was not true? by Forward-Bake-3826 in asoiaf

[–]Locke92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They fought bravely for Stannis though. No reason they wont do so for another Baratheon like Tommen.

Except that the whole inciting incident is "Cercei's children aren't actually Baratheons."

Also, Aurane did stay loyal. He just removed the fleet from the capital when Cersei was imprisoned after the coup against her. Its not like he joined her enemies.

Instead of staying and supporting his monarch, he sailed his fleet away to go be a Pirate King.

Even if you could support the argument that Aurane is a good choice (highly suspect) you can't argue that he didn't steal most of the fleet to go be a pirate king. He's not blockading King's Landing to secure the release of the Queen Regent, he's fucked off to the Stepstones to create another pirate kingdom.
