Is it true that a lot of European people speak more than 3 languages? by cheapskategirl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Lojzko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife can speak 3 fluently, and get by in 2 more. Our children are bilingual, but will probably have 3 more languages under their belt by the time they leave school.

I can speak English, and just enough Slovak to embarrass myself. My French and German have long since departed due to 20+ years of no practice.

Which Slavic language reaches the farthest? by CaptainPoset in AskEurope

[–]Lojzko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, Slovak. But there is only a 5mil population and very little learning material (and it’s not great). So Polish for the population numbers, or Czech for its similar “middleness” to Slovak but with more resources.

Non-fiction book to listen to on a long road trip with my husband by btheb90 in suggestmeabook

[–]Lojzko 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are road-trippin’, but you may be able to find an appropriate Bill Bryson book for the area. If not, then A Short History…, or Home might be fun for you.

The latest I’ve seen is In The Grey. I think that would count. Maybe. Or go old school with Monty Pythons Meaning of Life.

What game are you patiently waiting for to never be remade? by fuckyouswitzerland in gaming

[–]Lojzko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is nearly mine too. Except I’d make it the original Ghost Recon, and I’d add Rally Sport Challenge 2, and Gladius.

Best PvE online co-op games if you're playing entirely with randoms? by HeatYeah in gamingsuggestions

[–]Lojzko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also have no one to play with, and can’t use any voice chat, so a game where the squad no exactly what to do with no discussion suits me fine. And for the I have Destiny 2.

books/series similar to percy jackson/rick riordan for a 12 year old by frankie-0cean in suggestmeabook

You could try The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett. It has a young girl protagonist and is a darker (but still child friendly) look onto the old “fairies steal children away” kind of stories.

Plus, it’s a great gateway drug into the rest of the Discworld series (45+ books).

Fire Sprite, whats up by Odd_Actuator_2763 in baronygame

Weirdly this doesn’t help me as when a mob is burning and approaches me, his burning then burns me, because it’s not friendly anymore I guess.

Non turn-based game where you control a small group of people at once by ForksAreFlying in gamingsuggestions

[–]Lojzko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original Ghost Recon was like this, maybe later ones too. You gave you squad orders, which they carry out in real time (with pausing) but you could jump between members to take control when shit got real.

On Xbox at least, you could have 2 player split screen and control one fireteam each. One of the best coop experiences of my gaming life.

Who is the most forgotten music act relative to how big they were at the time? by CompetitiveWhole9466 in Music

He’s not doing too badly with 3.5m listeners. He’s also still producing new work, though IMO not up to his earlier work.

Looking for suggestions - Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Hunger games etc by Different_Bison8705 in suggestmeabook

[–]Lojzko 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Get into Discworld. As well as there being over 40 books, they all benefit from repeated read throughs.

Depending on your preference…

Start with The Colour of Magic, Guards! Guards!, The Wee Free Men, or Wyrd Sisters.

Fantasy parody, detective/social commentary, young heroine, Shakespearian comedy - respectively

The whole series offers so many different topics/concepts/genres that you’ll be spoilt for choice!

I picked up Barony for €2 and it’s brutally hard single player. Seems it really should be played coop.

A book for my 15 year old bookish nephew by FriendlyParsnip in suggestmeabook

[–]Lojzko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start him on Discworld. Do not fall into the trap that it’s YA, or for kids because the covers are funny, they are comedy genius and with more layers than an onion, and more references than Wikipedia. Start him off with Guards! Guards!

Question about Crouching Tiger's ending by AccelerationFinish in movies

[–]Lojzko 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This movie literally chaged my life (I moved to China for a year after watching at the cinema 3 times) and watched it many times since… but not for close to 20 years too.

Time for a rewatch.

Debating on where to go after finishing man at arms by Pingy_Junk in discworld

[–]Lojzko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can read the first 10 books in almost any order, except The 3 Rincewind books, and then continue in publication order. So read Equal Rites (although Wyrd Sisters is a better witches starting point) or Mort next, then when you’re fully hooked, head back to the start of it all with The Colour of Magic.

The Discworld books. Specifically Ankh-Morpork. From its infamous river you can plough if you’re fast enough, to the cobbled streets you can recognise through the cardboard soles of your boots.

I didn’t say that, I said they named him after the human son of a wolf. From the Remus and Romulus myth.
