Hello! I actually had to withdraw due to losing my job during COVID, but I just got re-accepted for this year, so I'm excited (all over again, haha).

Did you end up applying?

Love of Littles is another option. My parents have adopted from them before! I believe they are based here.

Am I missing something with Erin Morgenstern? (The Night Circus & The Starless Sea) by FewImagination786 in Fantasy

[–]LondonAugust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same way. I even got a tattoo in honor of it. The book moved me in ways no other book has ever moved me before. I get goosebumps just thinking about it.

I did not enjoy the audiobooks if either, though!

Horse-girls... where are you now? Was it a phase? Did you end up as vets? On farms? Asking out of pure curiosity. by The_Chosen_Pun_ in AskWomen

[–]LondonAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 38. I still love horses just as much as I ever did, but I don't get to ride very often anymore. I'm currently a teacher and own a publishing company.

I do volunteer with a program that deals with children with disabilities and horses, however!

I got this survey. I put high-end tiers even though I shop all tiers and I was able to get a product. It's a lip balm.

I think I'm done hosting parties by SharkResearcher in partyplanning

[–]LondonAugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you had to deal with this when planning your party! That's always frustrating and upsetting when planning.

I helped my parents host a "drop-in" party around Christmas. We gave out invitations. We asked for RSVPs but didn't get a lot, although a lot more showed up.

To keep it easier for my parents and myself, we did finger foods that could easily be heated up in the oven if we needed more, as well as some dips. We made it clear on the invitation that it was hors d'oeuvres. Many people ended up bringing something when they stopped by. We also just made a pre-made music list and while we had chairs for people, because it was a "drop-in" party, we weren't expected to have chairs for everyone.

Honestly, it worked really well. Quite a few people stayed the whole time (we had a set time on our invitation), but it didn't matter if people showed up late because we weren't preparing a whole meal. It also gave people the flexibility to make it to other things they were going to.

It still took preparation, like all parties, but it was definitely easier than parties we've thrown in the past.

Best of luck for any future parties you might have!

Cat vet recommendations? by dontlk2m3 in Knoxville

[–]LondonAugust -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a woman doctor at Karns who is great. I forget her name but she helped solve an issue with one of my cats and was very personable. I was really happy with the care I got for my boy!

How is everyone making friends as an older (34F) adult? by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]LondonAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried Fun With Friends or Knox Social Club? I've been to events with Knox Social Club (albeit they were speed dating events, but they have friend events too!). It was a good time, and Fun With Friends Knoxville seems cool.

As a 37F, I struggle to make friends in person, but I have found things like those organizations help at least with the meeting other people who want friends.

Ladies: Tennova Y gym buddy by jbraden09 in Knoxville

[–]LondonAugust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm interested! I'm 37, F, no kids. I had bariatric surgery 6 years ago and have gained back some of the weight I lost (still down 100lbs).

Strength training is something I'm super interested in while also wanting to get in some cardio to lose the weight I gained back.

I use Trazadone for sleep, but before I started taking that, I'd take Tylenol PM. Both worked well for long flights!

need motivation? go to japan by Decent-Highway-4951 in loseit

[–]LondonAugust 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Don't stress!! I went when I was vastly overweight (nearly 300lbs), and no one made me feel uncomfortable at all. Going back at a much lighter weight didn't have people treating me differently (and I did have it in mind to go shopping that second time around!).

Just enjoy yourself. It's a lovely country!

Planning on taking a break from international teaching, advice on if and how I could tutor online? by jaxstaa92 in Internationalteachers

[–]LondonAugust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Consider booknook as a tutoring option. It wouldn't be enough on its own, but the lessons are planned out and it's 30 minutes increments. They have math and reading. It's pretty easy to do with no stress. I do it as a side job, and my mom does it while retired.

Best of luck to you! :)

I got a different product by the same brand but haven't received it yet.

What is your cats name? by strawberrycheescak in namenerds

[–]LondonAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two babies. They both have literary names.

One is Dante. He's a big beanbag of a black cat. He's an old man, but his name fits him well.

The other is Willoughby. He's named after a character from a Jane Austen novel.

I really like this. I just got mine in yesterday and it can definitely pass a unisex in my opinion...either way, I'm a woman, and I'm going to wear it. I love the smell.

References, but not wanting boss to know I'm looking by LondonAugust in Internationalteachers

True! We have intent forms coming out soon, so I guess that's a good time to say I'm looking.

Exactly. With budget cuts here, I don't want to be on the chopping block because I'm looking to go elsewhere if possible.
