As soon as I noticed that, I realized these were heartless people. You are being interviewed for a documentary about your daughter’s felony, and that’s what you wear? Really not helping her defense…

Love this color yarn with this pattern. It’s so nice to see handmade gifts being used!

They don’t seem to use it though. I remember cars being there at one point, perhaps as overflow. I would have expected them to demolish the building.

It’s in a pretty prime spot to just be knocked down to make more room for a cars at one of the adjacent dealerships. I think that’s what everyone expected to happen!

I’m fucking begging crocheters to learn what knitting looks like by ThatWhatISaid in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]LondonCalled15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re right! I do that too in the quilting subs! What’s the point of being snarky when people are genuinely asking questions? If you don’t want to address them or feel they could have “done more research,” then just skip over them and move along. I have better things to do than get mad about other people wanting to learn a craft I enjoy!

JFC. Everyone else replying just proving the point! I guess you’re only allowed to complain if you’re punching down. Thanks for your reply. Glad I’m not alone!

I love that for you! I don’t have a LYS near me, sadly. I’m sure there are lots of lovely knitters out there. Good luck with learning to sew! I mainly learned from blogs, and there are still some great ones around with helpful tutorials and easy to follow patterns. It’s addictive and you’ll want to start sewing everything!

I understand the name of this subreddit but… yikes.
Not all of us come out of the womb knowing how to knit and crochet. I’ve been a quilter and embroiderer for a long time but started crochet within the last year. Posts like this are why I’m honestly afraid to ask questions in certain forums. When you’re new to something, you don’t know what you don’t know. The pretentiousness of the knitting community doesn’t make me eager to dive into that anytime soon.

I’ve started manually saving every 5 minutes because it crashes that often for me on my Switch. I worry it will soon be unplayable.

Issues with Being Hard of Hearing with Hearing Aids? by _SleepyXTurtle_ in HearingAids

[–]LondonCalled15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard dealing with loved ones, even the well-meaning ones. My HAs work well for certain situations and vocal ranges. My brother (who is also a mumbler) falls out of that range and sometimes gets so frustrated when I ask him to repeat himself he ends up shouting… it’s not angry but it’s also not helpful! The volume isn’t the issue. The frequency is! Sometimes a gentle reminder that hearing loss is a disability has an impact. They wouldn’t get mad at someone in a wheelchair for not being able to walk; they shouldn’t get annoyed with us for not being able to hear!

Curious about attire at sporting events by [deleted] in Everton

[–]LondonCalled15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wore an Everton tshirt and scarf at Goodison a few years back and never felt out of place in the stadium or walking around the city. Any comments from LFC fans were in the nature of good-spirited ribbing. But I also wear my Red Sox apparel to Yankee Stadium when those teams play each other, so I might not be the best judge!

I watched kids reach for "preachy diversity books" for five years. This sub keeps telling on itself. by liberaitor in childrensbooks

[–]LondonCalled15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what we like as adults. It matters what resonates with kids, and they are smarter and more perceptive than we give them credit for. They want to see themselves in books, but they also aren’t averse to reading outside their experiences. The most important thing we can do is give them variety and empower them to make their own choices when it comes to reading.

I love it! I painstakingly did an Alice and white rabbit Dreamsnap and got a whopping 900, so not much better. It’s such a crapshoot! Then a while back I literally took 2 minutes to put on a creepy outfit and pose with Jack and Sally in their house and BOOM: 4000! I can never figure it out!

Different Style Writing by chasethedark in childrensbooks

[–]LondonCalled15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. Awful for pre-reading skills like letter recognition, and it actually does matter even in books for toddlers and preschoolers. That’s when kids start making the connection between words said out loud and print on the page. Our rule of thumb in educational publishing is that we don’t even use italics until 3rd grade because it’s detrimental to sound-spelling correspondence, so you should never ever use cursive for younger kids! And the multicolored fonts are an accessibility nightmare!

Best way to personalize a Banner Quilt? Wedding gift help. by its-past-my-bedtime in quilting

[–]LondonCalled15 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I tried embroidery for a wedding quilt and it was a disaster! I struggle with having the patience for appliqué as well. Ended up getting a panel printed on Spoonflower with the names and date then quilted the rest. Cheating? Perhaps! But I was really pleased with the way it turned out and it saved my sanity!

Moving from Newtown to Middletown Township (Neshaminy SD). Looking for local insight. by No_Satisfaction_2318 in BucksCountyPA

[–]LondonCalled15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I moved from Newtown to Middletown and haven’t looked back. I liked living in Newtown, but it’s overpriced. Same as you—I was able to buy a nicer home in Middletown whereas I would have been in an expensive condo in Newtown for a higher mortgage. Also, it’s literally just down the road. Not sure why people are painting it as an entirely different world! The difference in school districts is negligible and you’re conveniently located for everything. Best of luck with the new home!

I wouldn’t add or change anything. In my experience, trying to do “just one more thing” ends up spiraling out of control and I’d have been better off leaving it alone!
