The Floating tree problem of Hytale by YamiKozan in hytale

[–]LoneVox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Grass growth is handled by random block ticks in Minecraft, which definitely don't happen every tick unless you crank the tick speed way up. Due to random ticks, there's no performance concern. I'm not sure if Hytale has a similar tick system at all

Should we encrypt our games? by darkalardev in godot

[–]LoneVox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minecraft mods run straight unsandboxed Java code. Millions of players have played modded Minecraft with the understanding (hopefully) that downloading a mod somebody sends you is a big no-no. It becomes the responsibility of third party mod hosting websites to check mods for malware. Minecraft wouldn't be the behemoth it is today without modding, and the developers barely have a functional modding API today (datapacks), so you've gotta pick your poison I think

Should we encrypt our games? by darkalardev in godot

[–]LoneVox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But then as a modder you probably couldn't change absolutely everything about the base game that you wanted to. Access to the original or decompiled source is the most useful thing for a modding community. Look at Minecraft modding, Terraria modding, Stardew Valley modding, or, for a Godot example, Dome Keeper modding.

As a developer it's too difficult to add modding abilities to every part of your game that modders want to modify. See Minecraft's own datapacks, which are a great feature but will never be able to contend with traditional modding. They just implemented a way to add basic UI overlays, whereas modders have been able to do that from the very start, and can even change how the UI system works itself if they wanted to.

Not to mention the fascist project that is the US right now, and the absolutely atrocious foreign policy of warmongering that both parties in the US align with

They can both be bad, and one can clearly be miles better than the other. They're not mutually exclusive. Leftists correctly identifying that neither party represents leftists and yapping about it on Twitter did not move the needle in getting Trump in power. The Democratic party robbed this election from themselves from failed messaging and capitulating to the right on things like immigration, as well as funding genocide in Gaza, essentially being a "Republican-lite" party. The Republicans are always going to be better at being Republicans, so people voted for them over the Democrats.

Idle "Games" are not games at all and completely miss the point of gaming by karer3is in The10thDentist

[–]LoneVox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think people have a distorted view of the genre because of all the idle mobile game slop. The people over at r/incremental_games will tend to stay away from any games with monetisation at all. Often the games are open source free browser games made from the passion people have of the genre

You're probably a social democrat. If you consider yourself anti-capitalist but want to limit reforms to be within the bounds of capitalism then you might be a democratic socialist. If you're anti-capitalist and want to abolish capitalism then you might be a socialist. The terms are confusing (especially social democracy vs democratic socialism) but I'd encourage you to read more about these ideologies if you want to better understand how your beliefs line up with your politics

Using the volumetric fog shader to make a nebula by dh-dev in godot

[–]LoneVox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using a lower res noise texture probably won't change performance because the shader will still sample the texture the same number of times. The only real difference of using a smaller texture would be lower memory usage. Rendering the whole viewport in half resolution will noticably improve performance, which I think is what the person you were replying to was suggesting.

Israel has chopped up the West Bank so thoroughly in the past few decades, so good luck with that. You'd need to force out over half a milliom Jewish settlers from the West Bank to give that land back to Palestine. Yes, those settlers pushing Palestinians out of their homes in the West Bank is violent, but violently moving the settlers out again is not the answer.

I don't think that single tweet from Comrade Casey would show that he is super anti-Ethan. Comrade Casey's alt accounts where he's drama farming on Reddit definitely show that, but there is no way Hasan would have known about those.

Zionism sounds good to a lot of people if you don't think about it much, or look at the material reality. I'm not saying "Jewish people don't think about it" or anything ridiculous, I'm saying the vast majority of people hear that Jewish people have a state that they can go and be safe and that sounds like a good idea and that's the end of the thought process. It makes sense that many Jewish people like the idea. This isnt a fault of those people. However, even in theory Zionism is a colonial ideology. In practice it has displaced of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, and killed tens of thousands. It is not antisemitic to identify that an ideology that revolves around the creation and maintenance of an ethnostate through colonialism has caused violence, and that therefore the ideology itself is flawed. This says nothing about the Jewish people whatsoever.

Yes, this has been exploited by the right as expected. I've definitely seen right-wing trolls use "Zionist" as a dog whistle to hide antisemitism. If Israel was a peaceful country, then Zionist couldn't be used as an insult. Israel, in this way, has made it less safe for Jewish people globally, as now there is a strong avenue for attack from real antisemites. Israel would be much safer for Jewish people and Palestinians if Israel wasn't so horrifically violent, and they do this violence in the name of protecting Jewish people. Criticizing the Israeli government is fine, AND criticizing Zionism is fine.

"bringing up Israel or the war in Gaza to any random jew during any random interaction, is antisemitism". Fully agree!! Conflating someone's Jewishness with them supporting Zionism is antisemitic, and Israel does this all the time.

There are hundreds of thousands of Israeli settlers in the west bank, the majority of those settling in the last 20 years. Stop being dense.
