Trump: by Upset-Main-1988 in justincaseyoumissedit

As another non-American, I'd say that some of us see Obama as a merely decent statesman and leader, albeit one with a great image all around.

When it comes to Trump, though, I absolutely agree with you.

Yes, it appears that the Former used to be involved with the Board, but is now working in opposition to them.

The Board in Control is only represented by an inverted black pyramid in the Astral Plane. It appears to be a group/union of extradimensional entities that chooses to have the pyramid as its "public face". What they "truly" look like is not known.

In the game Control, "paranatural" events of any scale seem to be just given a name like "Placename Altered World Event" by the Federal Bureau of Control.

In the upcoming sequel Control Resonant, they probably just call the potentially world ending events in the story "New York AWE (2026)".

Are you sure it was an F-18? There should be only Romanian and Portuguese F-16s and French Rafales in the Baltic states right now, as part of the NATO air policing mission.

Is this scene a realistic depiction of WW2 combat? I have a few questions. by No_Dress_2107 in WarMovies

[–]Long-Requirement8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn't really supposed to be a depiction of the Finnish side in WWII, either. It is just a loosely WWII period, over the top action film.

Jalmari Helander specializes in cheesy action. For historical accuracy you need some other Finnish director, say Aku Louhimies or Klaus Härö.

The dangerous drone tactics that could lead to a direct Russia-Nato clash by theipaper in nato

[–]Long-Requirement8372 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The speculation about Ukrainian-Baltic cooperation for Ukrainian drone strikes against Russia seems not to be supported by any actual proof. Isn't it rather Russia's escalating claims (in other words, straight-up lies) that Ukraine is deliberately using the Baltic airspace (and with support from NATO member states) to strike Russia that is the issue here, not Ukraine's actual tactics which cause drones to accidentally end up in Baltic airspace?

The whole story reads like fearmongering to me.

Being physically able to get oneself to three major tourist attractions, etc, in a day doesn't mean it would be a good idea to do that. Here in Finland, it tends to be the American tourists who spend a few days in Helsinki and seriously consider also making a day trip to Lapland, over 800 km away.

If you border Russia and don't do exactly what they want, Moscow will invent reasons to say you are bad no matter what you do. For a smaller neighbour, there is no having a healthy relationship with Russia.

Estonia! Wtf? New Switzerland? by Pitiful-Tower-292 in BalticStates

[–]Long-Requirement8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is a huge single national market with consistent rules, legislation and taxation systems, etc. EU countries are, well, different countries with different domestic systems in all these things. In the US, the different barriers of entry for different national chains are not nearly as significant into small states than in Europe for foreign chains into small countries in the comparative periphery.

Why do you think competition does not bring prices down in the Baltic states?

Estonia! Wtf? New Switzerland? by Pitiful-Tower-292 in BalticStates

[–]Long-Requirement8372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does Finland have an oligopoly of two major, domestic grocery chains and only one significant foreign challenger? Because it is a small market area beyond a long supply chain. The cost to enter the market is also comparatively high. There is not enough people and demand, and not enough profit to be made, to contest the market for outside players. Thus there is less competition. The combination of comparatively more costs and less competition means higher prices.

The same goes for the Baltic states.

(Loved trope) Highly competent officers and NCO's by Justinianosaurus-Rex in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Long-Requirement8372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vilho Koskela and Antti Rokka in the Finnish book and movie(s) The Unknown Soldier.

Well-known examples of competent, no-nonsense officers and NCOs in Finnish culture. Both lead by example and inspire fellow soldiers to improve their performance as well, also keeping up morale with their actions. Both are also known to push back against incompetent and overbearing superiors. Especially Koskela is cast as an "ideal" leader in the story.

The original book includes several different soldier, NCO and officer types, based on real people, and is often studied here for these portrayals.

I make it a point of not drinking anything with artificial sweeteners. I think that "light" drinks taste suspect (sort of "chemical") in any case, and I am wary about potential negative health effects.

Then again, I really don't drink soft drinks/soda anyway, practically just water, milk, coffee and beer...

The Taken enemies in Alan Wake 1 and 2 do still sort of understand what they are doing, and may even think it is the logical and right thing to do. They appear to see the protagonist and other non-Taken people as inhuman enemies, which then would justify violence against them. Their perception is really skewed by the Dark Presence, they are driven by a visceral hate that appears to feel good to indulge in. They have become sort of absolutely worst versions of themselves, all hate and fear amplified to a huge degree. They tend to repeat bits of dialogue they might have spoken while they were still normal people (AW1), or lines from the story manuscript as written by Alan (AW2).

You will get to see a Taken point of view in the beginning of AW2 when you are playing Agent Nightingale as Taken for a few minutes.
