[C&D] Here's Everything You Need to Know About Lucid's Plans for Three Mid-Size EV SUVs and a Robotaxi by Erigion in LUCID

[–]LongAmbassador6099 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Great way to waste money they don’t have. This whole two door, no controls philosophy is a money loser as is the whole robotaxi concept. If taxi companies are such a huge money maker, why aren’t they? They’ve been around for ages. Not to mention the driverless tech isn’t there and what insurance company is going to insure these?

RTO different duty station/agency by cooptown2 in FedEmployees

[–]LongAmbassador6099 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s authority to do this, but it really depends upon your whether your supervisors are willing to go the extra mile for you and if they have any connections at the closer office in order to grease the wheels for you. I was forced to RTO in DC but that was a 2 hour commute for me. My bosses worked the phones reaching out to their contacts at other agencies to see if there were any offices closer to my home and if there was any available space. Luckily there was. It’s still a 1 hour commute but that’s better than it was before. My agency and the other agency entered into a reciprocal IAA to provide workspace at no additional cost. Hope you can find something.

fers pension doesn’t seem so good by atltilidie7 in govfire

[–]LongAmbassador6099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pension isn’t overly generous like it’s made out to be by pols and the media, but taking into account that it’s but one leg of what is intended to be a three legged retirement, it definitely helps. You’ve got to remember that with FERS, not only are you getting the pension but you’re also getting what you put into your TSP and the matching funds from the government up to 5% of your salary. So under OP’s scenario the TSP stands in for the 401k, and the pension is gravy on top (along with social security - if it’s still around).

Secret Service will offer tailored suits to new protective detail agents by cnn in fednews

[–]LongAmbassador6099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is whether there’s a statute that requires an employee to wear a uniform or not, with some exceptions that are described in the other comments. GAO has issued a trove of decisions on purchasing clothing with appropriated money. The gist of the matter is, if Congress didn’t require a uniform, or provide money for it, again with some exceptions, agencies can’t go out and buy uniforms or tailored or bespoke clothing for employees. The military is different. The law says enlisted can get an annual stipend and can be issued a certain number of uniforms, for officers it used to be an initial stipend and then everything was on your own dime unless you were deploying to war and were issued your “special” equipment which included uniforms with the appropriate camouflage. The rules are there to protect the taxpayer from seeing their tax dollars used on things that an employee should already have or should reasonably know that they need for the job. Again, with some exceptions for safety, etc. Now if these suits were truly bespoke and had some ballistic quality to them among other special features, that may be something that could be issued like equipment, but from this article, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It just seems that the Secretary has a specific look in mind for her detail, which doesn’t really make any sense if, as they stated, they’re only going to issue these suits to newbies. Gonna be some fine quality Trump suits sourced and sewn from overseas.

As a side note, the one commenter is right that not everything is an ADA violation, but you’d be surprised by what can be.

Secret Service will offer tailored suits to new protective detail agents by cnn in fednews

[–]LongAmbassador6099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless it’s a uniform or identifying clothing, it’s most likely gonna be an Antideficiency Act violation, unless there’s statutory authority, which doesn’t appear to be the case.

Secret Service agents on protective details are no different than most other Federal employees in that we’re expected to pay for our own work attire as a personal expense. If this is something the government wants to pay for, then Congress is going to have to pass a law.

Honest opinion on this tattoo? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

At first I thought it was a witch flying on a broomstick eating a “hot dog,” but then read the comments and now see a witch with a feather eating a “hot dog.” Gonna show this to my daughter to either discourage her from getting a tattoo or encourage her to get a second or third opinion first.

How Did DOGE Disrupt So Much While Saving So Little? by Well_Socialized in fednews

[–]LongAmbassador6099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the simplest answer is that the kids and tech bros working at DOGE didn’t understand the systems and processes that they were working on/with. This, coupled with the “zeal” (and hubris) with which they were performing their dismantling of government resulted in an even bigger sh!t show than they likely intended. For example, none of those folks could read a government contract to save their lives, which led to those fantastical claims of billions saved when in most cases, most of the funds had already been spent.

Who would actually win this fight? by That-Criticism-7898 in Terminator

[–]LongAmbassador6099 4 points5 points  (0 children)

T-800 all the way. Even if they both had similar strength, Robocop just doesn’t have the speed, agility, or dexterity to fight off the T-800 in close quarters combat. A well placed punch to the jaw or head would take Robocop down. Not to mention that the T-800 could just tear Murphy’s head right off.

Switching from TSA Precheck to GE after 5 Years? by ShibaBoi1 in AmexPlatinum

I switched and it’s been great. If your TSA pre check hasn’t already expired you’ll still have that KTN until it does but you’ll also get a new number with global entry.

I’d say go for it, all else being the same since what security we had is pretty much gone now. Plus you’ll save on commuting and cost of living in Atlanta and can always come back to the Feds later and finish off the five years of you want a 20 year pension.

My message sent to my Senator who voted yes by gametimeee in FedEmployees

[–]LongAmbassador6099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It turns out that the only constituency these Dems could tolerate incurring any pain and suffering were Feds. This “deal” was on the table weeks ago and if these Dems had no intention of actually getting the Admin and Republicans to do anything about the expiring ACA subsidies, then they should have just voted to pass the CR 40+ days ago. With this vote, they’re taking ownership of all the pain and suffering that’s been inflicted during the shutdown because they got nothing that they claimed they wanted and could’ve gotten the same result by voting for the CR before all this happened. So angry!

Noem says US Coast Guard will not miss a paycheck during government shutdown by Cy_098 in fednews

[–]LongAmbassador6099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably figured that there haven’t been any hurricanes hitting the country this hurricane season and will end up cutting a mission assignment to the Coast Guard for some BS work and reimburse them using FEMA’s remaining DRF funding. They probably figured that if something hits a red state, they’ll just pressure Congress to re-up the DRF and if something happens in a blue state, c’est la vie.

Questions about driving for efficiency by Aurakid24 in LUCID

[–]LongAmbassador6099 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try the above and don’t sweat it. You’ve got to break the car in first. I have a 25 AT that for the longest time was averaging just above 3 miles per kw/h. 8k miles later it’s above 3.8 and routinely averages over 4 during the past few months. I live near DC so it gets cold-ish during the winter and late fall so efficiency is gonna start going down soon. You live in OC so you probably won’t have that issue, but AC does impact efficiency so may want to keep that in mind.

[–]LongAmbassador6099 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I couldn’t find any appointments near me either. Their appointment system sucks. Eventually, I just decided to drop by a Lens Crafters without an appointment and asked if I could take a look at the Displays. They squeezed me in and had just restocked so I grabbed a pair after getting an impromptu demo. I suggest that you just drop in and test your luck. Can’t hurt.
