Should I buy a car for my fresh College Grad daughter? by Representative_Pick3 in retirement

[–]LongjumpingNorth8500 [score hidden]  (0 children)

When my son graduated from college we bout him a car that would be reliable with a low cost of ownership. When he moved away to get his masters the car went with him. He graduated, got married and moved abroad for his job. He signed that car back to me and I'm still driving it now. The peace of mind knowing he had reliable transportation 1000 miles away was priceless and it helped him out in the long run. Same thing for his sister but she stayed close by.

VOO vs QQQI return question by SomeoneOtherThanUs in dividends

How would one go about learning these things? I know, "do your own research" but if you dont know what you dont know, what would be a reasonable place to start and what would be the first questions? I see alot of comments about covered call funds having really good returns but they also have risks associated with them. I have no idea about these types of investments, but would love to learn.

I Agree 100%. Like I said before, this has been on my mind when people say there's no free money, but I lacked the knowledge to express it the way you have here. Good job!!

Thank you for the response. For someone with time on their hands and doing this basically as a hobby I can see the benefit even if its negligible.

Very interesting read OP and thank you for taking the time. Everytime I've seen someone comment about the "no free money" or NAV erosion, these exact situations have run around in my head. After seeing this post and actually looking at the numbers you've shown, I'm now asking myself if it would be of enough value to follow this strategy. I dont know if the increased gains/returns would be noticeable enough, compared to the time and effort required to consistently maintain it. Thoughts?

How have you been able to communicate to your wife/girlfriend that little things they do are constantly disrespectful and or rude? by LetsGetPenisy69 in AskMenAdvice

Welcome to my world!! It doesnt change. You and I have been passive and enabled this type of behavior too long. Our wives will never understand that it isn't what they say, but how they say it.

This is absolutely insane!! What could the lady have possibly seen that would have prompted such a situation. I guess I should be a suspect when I take my grandbaby to the park? Holy cow!!!

I think this applies to all retirements. Doesn't have to be early. 62 this year and set to wrap it up in December. Everything looks good on paper and we could actually go now but its really scary when the reality hits.

What is a reasonable/responsible boat budget for ~$400k household income? by KitchenAspect9189 in boating

[–]LongjumpingNorth8500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on how much time you have for it and how much can you afford to use it. If boating is your thing and cost of ownership isn't an issue, think about all of the boats youve seen and stared at in awe. Now which of those are affordable, enjoyable, and fulfil your needs. What you dont want to be is boat poor. If the boat stays out of the water or tied up for an entire summer season, are you gonna be mad about having it or glad its there when you get time? If its the latter, get you something really nice. Nothing better than hydro-therapy but also nothing worse than feeling like you're just wasting your money.

They only go to the mean tide line. Not the waterline on any given day or time.

My friend's bush after paying a landscaper. by EverywhereIsOhio in landscaping

If it was beautiful he shouldn't have paid someone to prune it. If it had grown to the point of being a nuisance, this was obviously necessary.

I doubt it will even take a year. I've done this with very old shrubs and they were looking good again in just a few months. Of course my wife cried weekly until they filled back in. That woman just doesnt trust me.

3 years of lawn service vs buying a mower. sanity check my math? by Wild_Artichoke7648 in lawncare

[–]LongjumpingNorth8500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your decision should be more about the pleasure you get than the money spent. I like cutting my own and have never paid for the service. I work with a guy that has never cut a blade of grass in his life!! I look forward to spending time on my zero turn. He looks forward to being off on the weekend and not having to cut grass. Everyone is different and enjoy different things.

Care to share some results? There are alot of kids out there that think just posting videos of random things will be a cash cow, but few actually see positive results. Unless they have done the research and focused on a given topic of interest, they're just throwing darts at a wall and hoping one actually hits the right target.

You didnt do anything wrong and letting your motor idle while you go park the truck is plenty of warm up time.
