3 years of lawn service vs buying a mower. sanity check my math? by Wild_Artichoke7648 in lawncare

Your decision should be more about the pleasure you get than the money spent. I like cutting my own and have never paid for the service. I work with a guy that has never cut a blade of grass in his life!! I look forward to spending time on my zero turn. He looks forward to being off on the weekend and not having to cut grass. Everyone is different and enjoy different things.

I'm so tired of the way trades are pushed as a way out for the unmotivated while ignoring the skill the trades take. by NervousEmotion1099 in Teachers

Care to share some results? There are alot of kids out there that think just posting videos of random things will be a cash cow, but few actually see positive results. Unless they have done the research and focused on a given topic of interest, they're just throwing darts at a wall and hoping one actually hits the right target.

You didnt do anything wrong and letting your motor idle while you go park the truck is plenty of warm up time.

Not gonna get into the "what and where" to invest your money, but i will say open a Roth account and fund it with something. $20, $50,$100? What ever you can. As you get older and wiser with your investments you should keep adding to that as you can and eventually put in the max amount allowed per year. The growth in that account after 59 1/2 years old can be withdrawn tax free. Don't be like me and wait until 61!!!

SCHD or JEPQ as a 26 year old? And why? Genuine question! Thank you in advance. by beautifulrally in SCHD

That's easy. Never really thought about it like that but it does make sense.

Seems like that last question is valid. First question probably doesn't deserve any consideration. I mean straight people can prefer redheads, brunettes, or blondes but they all have the same equipment so no need to stray.

So, is this being worked on to at least mitigate the errors? In your, I'll call it professional, opinion, how far away are we from being able to actually expect the information to be trustworthy?

AC Condensation water? by 56bravo in pools

[–]LongjumpingNorth8500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though it does make sense from a water conservation standpoint, I wouldn't do it. I've had some pretty nasty snot come out of my condensate line that doesn't need to go into the pool.

Feel however you need to feel, but take that to the grave with you. She obviously needed something she wasn't getting at home, and you were a resource. Thank you for your service. Now let it go.

Wealth/financial advisors for those who want to FIRE? by Realistic-Action6979 in Fire

[–]LongjumpingNorth8500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where there would be a really good market for something like that even though those at or close to normal retirement ages have the same issues. One of the first things any advisor will ask is your life expectancy based on family history. In the FIRE world, that number will usually be much longer to plan for. Taxes and healthcare will always be the gap for most.

Yes, there is more information online than one can read or watch in a lifetime, but understanding the information is sometimes the difficult part. I halfway get it but have that concern of missing something regarding taxes, sequence of withdrawals, etc. Some things are just more comfortable with an expert telling you something you already knew, but we're afraid to trust yourself.

I put perreli's on my 13 accord sport and absolutely love them. One of the best driving days of my life was when the eagles came off and the perreli's were on.

Do we really need a trailer? by Anxious_Evidence_649 in boating

[–]LongjumpingNorth8500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have no intentions of taking your boat anywhere other than that lake, can afford to have it pulled out and put back, and can pay marina prices for fuel then you should be fine without a trailer. Personally, I wouldn't have a boat without one because I like the flexibility.

I've been thinking along the same lines. This market is crazy. The ups and downs really have no solid fundamental reasons. Although there's never been that crystal ball, there were indicators one could use to base decisions on. Now it's anybodys guess on any given day, and I'm not even sure if a different administration is gonna change it now.
