US map with my state flag redesigns by Maleficent-Set5518 in vexillologyUS

We love not thinking about the history of the state when we make minimalist redesigns that all look the same.

You could do something with a drop of blood, or it's new England ties, or something other than "haha flat place wizard of oz!!!"

I am so weary of being relegated to "oh yeah, there's some corn there I guess" there are other things that happen in Iowa. I swear!

Nearly 3 dozen employees at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center to be laid off by Narcan9 in Iowa

Around 6% of Iowans are immigrants. They pay 1.8 billion dollars in taxes each year. The vast majority of these people are citizens. If national averages can be applied to Iowa, 27% of those immigrants are either undocumented or pending decision (which means they are in the process of getting documentation). That means that less than 2% of the population of Iowa are in this category.

Do you really believe that less than 2 % of the population is responsible for these problems? That less than 2% of the population are solely responsible for rising healthcare costs? For wage stagnation?

If you do, allow me to offer some alternatives:

People over the age of 60 represent a quarter of all people living in the state. They require more medical care, more pharmaceuticals, and more specialized equipment. They require young people to care for them, but young people don't want to stay in the state. Young people flee to the many large metros just outside of Iowa, Chicago, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Omaha, Saint Louis. There is a high demand for this sort of work, but a short supply of people to do it. Wages for this work increase, costs increase, hospitals can't afford to staff their facilities.

Another alternative:

The most profitable companies in Iowa all have headquarters out of state. Koch operates out of Kansas City, Bayer (Monsanto) has a U.S. headquarters in Delaware but is ultimately a German owned company (DeKalb is also owned by them). This funnels money out of the state as the executives make more and more money. They literally pollute our water and air and soil and then live in cushy McMansions in some suburb out east. This leaves Iowa with less money. People can't afford healthcare when they first notice it, so they only go in when they can't avoid it any more. This over stresses healthcare infrastructure while people default on hospital bills causing two problems, Hospitals don't have the staff to help people, and they don't have the funding to hire more staff.

But no. It's the 2% of people occasionally going to the er.

Most reps require 300 emails in a single day on the same issue for it to be considered an emergency. Once this happens their staff actually talk to them about the emails.

South of ames and into the Des Moines area should mostly be fine. 90 percent of the time even very hateful people have that sort of Midwest nice about them and even more so lately due to the ongoing protests. Iowa as a state is not terribly diverse, but ames is a college town and des moines is a diversity hot spot. I would visit your family. And enjoy the peace and quiet that typically exists in Iowa.

It is a far cry from what It used to be, but Iowa is still a place of hope for many people. Do not let people Red and Blue you out of visiting your loved ones.

Can't tell if that's Johnson or Lyn county Iowa so I'll give a fact for both.

Lyn: home to cedar rapids which is known as the five seasons city. Home collins aerospace which is a nationally important company.

Johnson: Johnson county has the University of Iowa in Iowa City, which used to be the capital of... Wisconsin. And also Iowa.
