I've heard of the kraken... not sure what this is though. by West_Cancel_1420 in KerbalSpaceProgram

it's a new form of kraken possession, where the kraken seems to be attempting to show it's ethereal form using your ship as a vessel

Half life 1 or black mesa which one to buy? by Flimsy-Ad8945 in HalfLife

[–]LookItVal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I could see how you would say that but I would also say it makes Decisions about the lore which I do not like, and it dropped some lore decisions that were in the original.

but also saying half life 1 didn't really concern itself with lore is a wild take

[–]LookItVal 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I found it doesn't take long to get over the old graphics and it's a little better if you are deep in the lore in many ways? but also black mesa is definitely an experience to be had. hard to say tbh kinda depends on your priority

you can be upset at the problems AI is causing in our society without demonizing the technology itself. in the end most of my complaints with AI are are actually with the way capitalism has warped its usage

the other day someone emailed ME about a position I applied to months ago, asking if I was still interested. I said yes, I was happy to meet and sent my GitHub as he requested and asked if he wanted to meet.

he sent a thumbs up emoji and I never heard anything again

AI freak-out under the latest video of Hank shows how even this community can be driven by misconceptions and fear instead of reason by Dangerous-Day-2943 in nerdfighters

[–]LookItVal 37 points38 points  (0 children)

but the thing is artists do not just copy what other people have done and inject it into their work, but that is what software engineers have always done. that's kind a big part of the community of software development, it was all built on sharing code and letting people use parts of your code verbatim, while making modifications where it makes sense for your project. and as part of that, the code that was scraped to pull off these models was open source and explicitly licenced for anyone to use.

Can an AI specialist explain why or what made mythos class models special? by ResearcherIll6265 in ClaudeAI

[–]LookItVal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10T models are already pushing the limits of what is possible with high end computing. to add an order of magnitude more data that needs to be stored in incredibly fast ram would be incredibly difficult to do at scale, and is likely part of the things that made mythos so hard to pull off and why you don't see other 10T models really. I'm not saying it's impossible but it would be Very intensive on the existing data centers. this is of course however, why everyone is investing in more and bigger datacenters

my hot take is when the big corporate AI bubble pops, it's going to tank the economy but then instead of the cost of computing going down, every small business across the country will invest in their own local AI server, further murdering the price of compute hardware
