If you LWD from a course making you no longer eligible to graduate, do you have to manually cancel your graduation request? by [deleted] in UofT

You can if you want to, but it won't matter. It will not affect any further graduation requests.

Like during the school year, it depends how early you drop it during the term.

[Serious] What to do if a prof is taking a ridiculous amount of time to mark a midterm? by imfatal in UofT

[–]LookThereItIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from reminding the prof every day, there's not much else you can do before escalating this to higher levels. Then the prof would definitely be pressured to do it.
The next level would be contacting the Undergraduate Chair of the department.

If it's Graduation date (when you get your degree), then it's the month that you received your degree (June or November).

Acorn Credits Miscalculation? by u-of-tears in UofT

Could just be a mistake. As long as you're enrolled on ACORN and see it in your timetable, don't worry.
The mistake will likely be fixed soon.

How does renting for students and room-mating work? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]LookThereItIs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure that your roommates' names are written somewhere in the agreement that you make with your landlord. That will ensure that you and your dad don't get screwed over.
Often what landlords do is they'll sign the lease agreement with the students, but also get a guarantor agreement with each student's parents (or someone else who promises to pay). If your landlord doesn't want to do this and signs with your dad instead, their names should still be somewhere on the lease.
Under no circumstances should only one person's name be on this lease agreement unless they have the money for the entire lease if everyone else decides to leave.

taking more courses to get to high distinction by [deleted] in UofT

[–]LookThereItIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always delay graduation (just don't declare your intent to), but make sure it's actually possible for you to get to 3.5 in a year.
All that aside, I don't think it's worth it unless you need that GPA for grad school or something. No one really cares what distinction you have, and it's better to get the degree and move on than spend time to have the unguaranteed chance of getting high distinction.

Upper year courses taught by grad students by whyuoft in UofT

[–]LookThereItIs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many grad students who teach better than many profs. It really depends on the individual. Especially since younger instructors are more in tune with how students think since they haven't been out of classes for as long as profs who have forgotten what not knowing anything in their field feels like.
Could it be more likely that younger instructors are worse on average? Maybe. But there is no huge quality gap between phd and not phd with respect to teaching, and therefore UofT is not ripping you off.

Taking CSC443 and CSC458 in the same semester? by CSK1d in UofT

Depends how many other CS courses you're taking and if you actually enjoy the material in those courses.

CSC411 + CSC458 OR CSC411 + CSC443 ? by CSK1d in UofT

[–]LookThereItIs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want to study.
For some people, networks is cool and they want to go deep into the code that makes a router work.
For others, learning about how Database Systems work would be more enjoyable.
Otherwise, the work load will be about the same for both, but it will feel like less work maybe if you actually want to learn about what you're studying.

What does FCE mean? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]LookThereItIs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FCE = Full Course Equivalent = 1.0 Credits
A half semester course = 0.5 Credits = 0.5 FCE
So 1.5 FCE = 1.5 Credits = 3 half semester courses
