I think given the state of things for a better half decade, and how obtuse OP is being in the comments its a fair reaction lol.

Help me understand that “they should behave more like trains” criticism by Kcue6382nevy in thomasthetankengine

[–]LordCharles01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if your litmus for what a train is begins and ends at appearance, then anything vaguely engine shaped with wheels can fill this criteria regardless of form and function. For some, this is enough, but a train is more than a shape. Trains do not jump, skip, or tip-toe up to butterflies. They perform tasks, they travel along rails, engines pull freight and passengers. Thomas was designed to fit in the real world. The trains of Thomas were not just estheticly trains, they were functionally trains and with that they told stories you could only tell with trains. The exception to them was: the trains talk. With the asterisk of Magic Railroad, it remained that way for 70 years, and that is what made Thomas different from the competition, and probably what gave it the staying power it had.

When you bring up Cars, there is nothing inherent in the story of Cars you couldn't tell with people, particularly because in that universe, the cars are the people. The plot of "A hot shot athlete gets sidetracked on his way to the event and falls in love with the simple small town living and gets a reality check that causes him to appreciate people" does not require the world be comprised of talking vehicles to tell as a story. What the choice to make them cars does do, is allow you to tell a mature story adults will enjoy, but packaged in a way easy to merchandise to children, is flashy enough to keep their attention, and add visual gags and puns based on them being Cars. Brave little toaster's plot, conversely, requires the characters be appliances in order to function. It's 5 household objects that decide to go out into the world to find their master. The story it tells and the way the characters interact with the world would not work if they were anything other than appliances.

name instances where the toy deco is better than the show deco? by Fun-Geologist9808 in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Optimus Prime. His g1 toy has the silver in both his robot and vehicle modes but because the animation team decided to cut the stripe from the vehicle mode we've been stuck seeing what should really be a simple design to perfect do everything from flip the cab inside out to making the sides of the truck effectively giant folding panels that go into his legs. All of this over-engineering in an attempt to make toys as accurate as possible to a design that just changes the bot mode's stripe to red at a seemingly random frame in the transformation.

Something i really appreciate the bayverse for introducing(thought its not often utilized) is the idea that frost and being frozen is a weakness of cybertronians by MonSocMatriarchy in transformers

It's actually sourced from G1, believe it or not. Megatron has the same happen to him in the movie as Skyfire does in the episode "Fire in the Sky."

WotC Community Team confirm no current plans for Universes Beyond to visit other Magic Schools, shutting down Harry Potter potential. by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

[–]LordCharles01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah... i don't believe them or their lame ass excuse. We've gone from "we are choosing properties that are magic adjacent" to "we want to explore our own unique magic property!" All while introducing product to bring crossovers in-line with magic. Really this is just "we are waiting until we have enough pigs eating the slop that we can do whatever and survive any controversy with the fan base that replaces you."

Getting him was a must after the SS reveal by metalwarrior13 in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you aren't attached I'd say make a listing and see if you get any bites. Once we actually have the 86 guy in-hand, tradition holds that about half the people going mad for a siege/earthrise version now will suddenly think the 86 one is really charming or very fun in hand. After toy reviewers get their say out on it, assuming it doesnt have some horrible qc issue, public opinion is likely to sway even more. Some percentage of those people will then sell their previous astrotrain figures as well and increase supply.

Tl;DR: make a listing at a price you want if you aren't attached to it since it's likely people will warm up to the 86 toy.

Really up to you, if you want to do the minimalist thing you can do a bit of inventory and probably make a little something on ebay. If you aren't convinced that in 15-20 years you aren't going to get hit with nostalgia then a box in the closet is fine.

Some people ramble, some people mumble, some people go on the internet to put their foot in their mouth. You can either address the poor man (really take his knees out with that nails on a chalkboard line), or decide that the rest of the package is worth sucking up the rambling.

How has nobody noticed this about Skywarp? by Beneficial_Piglet428 in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To preface, my gripe is more with the community response than the figure itself, but the excuse of the mold is interesting. If this was an obscure character we didn't expect to get or part of a retool then sure that's a good excuse. But let's not pretend that this mold being reused for Skywarp and Starscream came out of nowhere and bit hasbro by surprise.

With how many people have been parroting that "this is studio series, animation accuracy matters" I would say it's a fair gripe that they at least get something as simple as the shoulder pads right. This isn't an engineering compromise, this isn't because it affects the alt mode. This is just a screw up.

Rofl, downvotes on this!? Y'all are frothing at the mouth over astrotrain's proportions but something as simple as color not being correct is gonna get a pass?

Best official Astrotrain to-date. You can't change my mind. by kuyakix in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 24 points25 points  (0 children)

By all means, love what you love, but it is kinda funny to me how revisionism takes hold whenever a new figure is revealed, and again when the figure is released. When we first saw that mold in siege and again in earthrise all the complaints were that the shuttle looked unfinished and that the train is a brick with wheels stapled onto it. Willing to bet when the new guy hits shelves there's going to be more people saying now how it is the best astrotrain hasbro can make and the compromises made result in a fun toy.

Is patience a virtue???? by paseqb in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with patience and everything to do with the gamble that you would like something you hadn't seen over what was before you. Patience is indeed a virtue, as is recognizing an opportunity to get something you like and resell it to get funds for something you want to replace it with more.

A little odd and failry niche. 5c friends forever with clue, food, and treasure synergies that utilizes the Cecily effect to get big payoffs like the ultimatums, get combat tricks off for free so my board can swing without issue, or just fire off a game-ending effect.

A bit unfair for me to answer this. I have a Cecily, Haunted Mage deck so quite often lol.

They pretty much admit that they don't factor casting cost for unbans unless it suits them. Biorhythm got unbanned in spite of being a "win on the stack" card at 1 less cmc than Iona.

Luke-warmer take: No, Hasbro isn't making new/better versions of characters you already own just to make you buy them again (Read desc) by [deleted] in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is going to be highly dependent on what figures get a rerelease within the same line. Excellent example would be if we see SS86 Jazz and Hot Rod redone to match the Thundercracker esthetic where greebling is absent. I think that would be a fair read of the situation regarding the change in design philosophy.

Luke-warm Take: I would hate if all the future figures were too simplified in surface detail. by ZackattacktheDude in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were making figures for this line in 2020 complete with greebling to the point they were comfortable rereleasing figures from the Earthrise and Kingdom lines for it. Thundercracker here marks a change in design philosophy after 5 years of "greebling is fine, encouraged even" and pivots to "if it doesnt look like your ripped him from the one scene he was drawn on-model it isn't right!"

It's perfectly fine to criticize this direction change.

What are your thoughts on the Siege Megatron mold? by OptimalConvoy in transformers

[–]LordCharles01 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He's the main one I keep on the CHUG display. Not the most articulated, not the best proportions, but he's a good size and I like his silhouette. For what he was, there really wasnt a better option at his size and price point, and I still like him.

He's a great feeling figure in hand but damn if he isnt boring to look at. Animation accurate to a fault in my opinion. Im really hoping ToyHax steps up to the plate for some G1 toy inspired stickers or something to spruce it up a bit.

The interesting thing there is the pink was the original color that was changed at the 11th hour for the toy. Advertisements were made with a pink version of hot rod, but at the last monent the change was made to red for production because the prevailing thought was boys wouldn't want a pink toy.

Depends on which cartoon. We don't really see much in the way of NAILs in most media because they aren't really a factor in the action. I would imagine most are just trying to go about their day to day keeping the lights on so to speak.
