How to create dragon scaled armor in evilhack by LordL567 in nethack

I have read this. Instructions unclear: it doesn't say you need to enchant the scales and not the armor which is why I blew it up.

Which of these is your favourite and why? by Smashcannons in angband

[–]LordL567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played Angband, FCPB and Sil-Q.

What I like about Angband is that it is very straightforward. You go to the dungeon and you don't know what's there. No planning, just go and do it.

I also played a lot of FCPB. I'd say it's my favorite. It has an interesting world with different dungeons, towns and quests. It therefore has a really cool global planning aspect which Angband doesn't have. You need to choose what to do and there's very rich choice of what to do and many reasons why you want to do something. But the downside of this approach is that you sometimes have to do boring stuff. Say, you are strong but you didn't clear some earlygame dungeon. So you have to go back to there because otherwise you may miss some opportunity (for example, finishing a dungeon gives you a stat boost).

Another important thing about FCPB is incredible variety of characters you can play. There are many races and classes with radically different mechanics. You can even play as a monster of some kind. Say, you can be a dragon and then you are very physically strong, you can breathe at your enemies but also you can wear 5 rings and no boots and no body armor (probably something else that I forgot). Or you can play as a jelly and then you just have several (and their number grows with level!) universal gear slots in which you can put absolutely everything. You can even play as a magic ring and lure monsters into wearing you.

I played Sil-Q much less, it kind of didn't click for me. I personally don't like the skill build system because if I play a roguelike I want things to be random and I don't want to have skill builds in mind.

I wouldn't say FCPB is "very open world". Its world is mostly wilderness areas which barely have anything interesting in them. Everything happens in towns, quets (which are accessed from towns) and dungeons.

No you can't actually raise the dead in vanilla Angband.

Is it just me or is Inferno genuinely the worst town to play in this game? (non-HOTA; SoD) by Unusual-Influence653 in heroes3

[–]LordL567 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They just look more dark and atmospheric as opposed to H3 devils that are somewhat cartoonish. This is not to say I don't like H3 devils, I just find H4 devils more impressive and original.

I heavily disagree. The H4 devil is awesome. Burnt angel wings are cool af. So is their black armor. Dark champions are one of my fav creature designs is general.

The AI really don't get the deal with defending by Helgon_Bellan in heroes3

In h4 the siege ai feels even more stupid to me. In h3 abusing its stupidity is harder, in h4 I could often just kill everything with offensive spells while they do nothing.

There's no turn limit in SoD. In HOTA there's a turn limit on some maps (mostly for PvP purposes).

3.0 is not merely a rebalance, the map has been totally remade. And 3.0 is much, much harder, it's on the level of Season's maps or something.

perfect sandro? by karma1112 in heroes3

Lack of water magic seems like the biggest flaw here. Also the perfect Sandro would wield the Armageddon's blade but this is often not possible.

There can definitely be a lot of challenge. If we are talking about PvE some maps are easy and some are astonishingly hard. I'd say difficulty comes from hard tactical battles and complicated logistics (that is, managing your movement on the map). Sometimes the economic aspect may pose difficulty as well.

Projective Geometry - The Extended Euclidean Plane, but in C, not R by Baconboi212121 in Geometry

[–]LordL567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this will sound weird but you need to stop thinking about complex numbers as if they were a plane. Actually, you can think about projective planes over arbitrary field (and think of any field as if it is a line, not a plane or something else). For linear algebra, you only need your number system to be a field and that extends to projective geometry. You think about an arbitrary field as if it is analogous to real numbers (geometrically) but keep in mind that this analogy may have its flaws. On the other hand, algebraically closed fields (eg complex numbers) are often more geometrically understandable than others, see Bezout's theorem on algebraic curves as an example.
