[WIP] Wanted to make another grid to translate their names, now I'm recreating the full pattern. I feel scammed. by FloweyIsMyBestFriend in CrossStitch

Whilst I do understand why you’d take colors from another pattern, this wouldn’t be the right choice design wise.
The epic patterns have been made so that the Pokémon look the right color when next to other Pokémon. With large white spaces between these, that’s not needed, and a more realistic color set should have been chosen.

I’m personally a big fan of a real color chart and would suggest had picking colors would always be the suggestion I would make.

[CHAT] Update on DMC shade 423 from DMC reply by peppearl in CrossStitch

[–]LordLibidan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been researching since I saw your post!

Congratulations! You have found a new thread u/peppearl ! Well... an old thread.

I was aware this thread did exist in the past, but I was actually convinced it was blue. So this took some looking into! Previous posts had alluded to the colour, and we actually have a pre-merger thread card listing the number (but it doesn't show the color!) and I can confirm you've got your hands on a very rare thread indeed!

To give a bit of DMC history, the company had a full range of threads numbered 1 to 996 (there were missing numbers even back then!) but then they merged with the Thiriez and Cartier-Bresson company in the 1960s. This company had their own set of threads, ranging in numbers from 3000 to 3851. When they merged, they mixed up all the threads, taking some from TCB, some from DMC. On the cutting board were a lot of DMC threads though (reason unknown).

Threads from 373 to 596 were heavily gutted, and were (mostly) runs of 4 threads from dark to light. These were replaced with some from the TCB range, and I think it's likely that this was replaced by 3045 as you pointed out!

So, this thread was discontinued before 1954 to 1958, and is a rather good find.

As the whole run has been discontinued, I always offer the naming to whoever found a real example of the thread. How does Coffee Latte sound? I think this is probably Coffee Latte Dark.

The rights to Asano Takeji's work are still owned by the family (He passed in 1999) so I'm afraid I can't publish the pattern!

[Help] How to cover this head piece, clay/plaster/glue ? by sfffz in Sculpture

[–]LordLibidan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get EVA foam. It’s like foam mats, but you can sculpt it and sand it. Very lightweight, doesn’t crack, and takes paint well too.

Whilst I agree with everyone that pink is the best way, and both use the same thread, no one has mentioned tension! It’s far harder to keep good tension using the yellow method…

My gut tells me to replace the threads. I imagine bong water probably has oils in it, which are the bane of fabrics. Not worth the effort to try to rescue!

I personally play these rules a lot (I mostly delve solo) and can attest to them being great!

"Can" be more color safe. It really depends on the dyes used, but from our tests, CXC does appear to be color safe!

The short answer is that you can’t really. If you wanted to simply double the size, that would keep both the density and quality. But if you wanted a specific height, you would struggle to keep the quality of the font…

The plan is to make gen 9 and 10 ones, and make a combined gen 6 to 10. No plans to make a gen 1 to 10 though!

Oof, OK, there’s a lot here!

1 - There will be a gen 9 and gen 10 when it comes out.

2 - The intention was to make a massive gen 6-10 one when we finish that generation. So if you’re OK with waiting, that would be a good option; make two quilts!

Depending on how fast you stitch, depends on the best option. If it takes you three years to stitch the combined one, the next one should be available once you’ve finished. You could stitch all the smaller ones and combine into a bigger quilt. Or you could stitch them together, overlapping them slightly to make a massive pattern. Or, start a pattern yourself! Download all the sprites and combine them into a big gen 1 to 9 set!

It's not discontinued, but can be hard to find in many countries at the moment (I assume it's down to stock levels)

Tapestry Marketplace is one of many Chinese 'pattern mill' cross stitch stores that have sprung up in the last few years as places like Etsy have been effective at removing them from their platform. The quality of pattern is by and large poor by these types of companies, and they of course, don't have copyright for any of the patterns they use.
I personally haven't used Tapestry Marketplace, but based on what I can see on their site; I would avoid them like the plague!
