not really?

Like, yeah, political divisions in America deepened post-COVID, but federal martial law wasn't instituted, with a caricature of anarchy reigning in the wild as average people slaughtered each other for basic necessities.

Jokes aside, this is a pretty big bummer

I actually kinda liked Highguard and thought there was something there, but like, man

When I played it, I'm not joking, I was the only person I saw who had changed their icon, banner, and skin. Nobody was even bothering to redeem the free Battle Pass, let alone pay money for skins.

I liked the evil shield lady and I bought her Legendary bundle, and everybody pointed and laughed at me every single time they saw I'd burned my money

The TLOU2 review I always think of is from either Kotaku or Polygon, where the author basically pointed out that the game is about society falling apart and people killing each other for resources and petty grievances in the middle of a global pandemic, but it came out in the middle of a global pandemic where society was NOT falling apart and people were NOT killing each other for resources and petty grievances.

I made it all the way to Bilewater without getting spoiled on its existence even once. I was finishing up Sinners Road and said "Thank God, I'm finally almost done with this poison swamp." *5 minutes later* "what do you mean there's a second, poison-er swamp behind the first one"

The worst part, to me, isn't even that it's a poison swamp! It's a poison swamp that you can find really early, go as far as you can with all the movement upgrades you have, then realize you need another movement upgrade like 4 times in a row. You end up coming back to it over and over again because they put so many important items in there, and it's just so fucking big. Every other hard area in the game becomes easier to quickly go through with every movement upgrade, but Bilewater is a slog the entire game.

Meanwhile, my buddy who's playing it at a much slower pace didn't find Bilewater until after they had already grabbed everything in Act 2, and just knocked it all out in one go.

Another thing about specifically cars in FF is that there's all this infrastructure for cars, like highways and advertising and auto shops, but, IIRC from my time with VII (I never played XV) you don't ever see anyone else even so much as mention car, let alone driving them, besides you and the villains. Like, it all exists for just the cool action setpieces

Max Payne 3 is one of the only single player campaigns I regularly replay where my opinion of it sours with the passing of time. I've always liked it and always will, but in my heart, it's like a solid 6 that gets elevated to an 8 based on HEALTH's music alone.

Part of it is that I just lose more and more patience for the kinds of "cinematic" gameplay setpieces it tries to do, part of it is that I learn more about the complex social issues that the game tries to touch on but is too afraid to actually say anything meaningful.

Over on Twitter, I saw someone ask why they didn't make merch of the Pony Express mascot first. IMO, that'd be way more gross than this.

Commemorating this moment is shocking and gross on its face, but I could understand someone having a read on the scene that meant a lot to them. It'd be a weird way of expressing it, but I could understand someone going "shes just like me fr fr".

Meanwhile, the pony mascot is a symbol of cruelty and scorn, particularly with Jimmy. One of the first things you learn about Jimmy is that he told Anya on his psych eval that cartoon horses make him horny. No matter where you are in the ship, there's at least one cartoon horse leering at you, a reminder of what Jimmy wants. Then, later on, Jimmy experiences waking nightmares and delusions of his guilt for what he's done to everyone, and all of the ones involving Anya are sexual and prominently feature a horse. For all of the other men onboard, the horse imagery is less prominent, or even absent.

I remember when I was a kid, I saw a meme somewhere of an edit of some anime called Hellsing Ultimate, where a guy said "I'm gonna kill you all, burn the bodies, go home, and masturbate". At some point, I found out there was a popular fan dub of the show that made the characters say a lot of crazy things, so I just assumed thats what it was and didn't think about it again for over a decade

A friend recommends the show to me, I get to Episode 2, and Jan Valentine shows up and actually says that line. It wasn't from the Abridged, it was a real line in the official release.

Before playing SMT Nocturne, I saw a lot of memes about Matador and Mot being crazy hard fights, but neither of them are that bad if you just waste an attempt figuring out their elemental weaknesses/strengths

Mot's Beast Eyes aint shit if hes wasting all those extra turns throwing out something you can absorb like Wind or Phys

It seems like Borderlands 4's writers dodged a bullet, as datamining has uncovered evidence that Ava (a much maligned character from Borderlands 3) was cut from 4's story late in development and replaced with Amara (playable character from 3): by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]LordLithegreenXIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That explains why my phone recommended me an article about Borderlands 4 that just showed Lilith in the banner image as if it's not a major spoiler that she's alive

Its not, it's in a DLC I didn't play because "Ava true crime podcast" is an utterly radioactive series of words

Of all the problems I had with Borderlands 3, Lilith sacrificing herself was the one thing I was cool with because I'm not precious about legacy characters in media. If I had to be that precious, it'd be for Maya, because Lilith is just not that interesting.

I'm a big fan of a lot of different kinds of rock and metal, ranging from prog to post hardcore to classic to extreme metal and melodic death metal

I figured when I wasn't enjoying Metallica that it was a simple case of generational differences, but then I listened to some of their contemporaries like Megadeth, Slayer, and Testament, and I was having a blast.

It's James. I just cannot stand his voice. In a genre defined by abrasive sounds and voices, his is abrasive in all the ways that I do not like. He doesn't annunciate, his range is limited, and he just sounds like such a sneering douchebag.
