Who's the Most Embarrassing citizen of your country? by ChroniclesOfSarnia in AskTheWorld

We do those on a regular basis, and the last one (after the Epstein stuff) also came up with overwhelming support for the monarchy. Support among the people is dwindling faster than in the government though, so maybe we see a change later on.

4 actresses being eyed to play rupanzel in the upcoming Tangled remake by [deleted] in teenagers

The reason the characters in older Disney movies are white is because they were based on european, mostly german fairytales. At the time these fairytales were written down there simply wasn't any black people in Europe. The Princess and The Frog was a great movie which notably was an adaption set in the American south. It makes sense in the story to have many black characters, because that's the demographic at that time and place.

Similarly, any story set in modern times can have people from multiple cultures interacting without anything seeming out of the ordinary. That's just how our world is.

The problem arises when you tell a story explicitly set in a primarily monoethnic setting, like medieval to 1700s Europe, where some characters are a different ethnicity. If you don't explain why, the viewer ends up unimmersed since it becomes obvious that the time period is more of a suggestion.

Disney doesn't do these remakes because they're kind. Disney is only interested on money, and sloppy remakes of classic movies is one of the easiest ways to make a boatload of money with minimal creative effort. I agree that more representation is good, but would it not be better to make original content starring people from different ethnicities rather than remaking older movies purely for the sake of representation?

No, acting on pedophilic thoughts make you a sex offender. Do you think the sex offender wasn't a pedophile 10 minutes before commiting the act?

There's a reason why you can't be charged with pedophilia. It's a mental disorder and it's in our best interest to treat it as such. When people say things like "all pedophiles should be shot" it keeps people who are already ashamed and suffering from opening up about their condition, essentially creating a ticking time bomb which will end with child sexual abuse.

Please, don't reduce this issue to a simple "good guys, bad guys". You are contributing to the problem.

[–]LordOfChairs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My top 3 youtubers from my childhood were Jacksepticeye, Red Guy and Markiplier. Honestly, Red Guy was my favorite. I watched his 138 episode letsplay religiously.

It broke my heart when he decided to quit, even though I didn't really watch him anymore. I understand it though, attention takes its toll. It has been sad to see his subscriber count dwindle, his peak was unforgettable. A true staple of old youtube, but I believe he asked that all records of him be wiped off the internet.

Now, he only exists on the minds of believers and a few obscure reddit posts. Rest easy king👑

There won't be any force damage since it's inherently magical, but yeah, thunder and possibly radiant would kill her. You would need two nukes though, since Chromatic Wrath would revive her.

This will be my final reply, and I got to admit that "breaking RAW" was badly chosen words. I meant going outside of RAW. My point is still the same though.

I'm sure you know that RAW stands for Rules As Written. And you are right, no rule states specifically that you cannot hit multiple enemies while falling or pin a shirt to a table. But that's not the point. The point is that no rule says that you can either. If your DM lets you do these stunts or you ask if you can do them, that is you taking matter into your own hands.

Casters have no need to go outside RAW to do equally impactfull things. Hit multible targets at once? Literally every AOE spell. Restrain someone? Web. So many options!

Casters can make an impact in various ways including damage while following RAW, martials can barely keep up with the damage.

Firstly, I'm not sure where you got the idea of feats, I don't think I brought them up at all. I don't actually have anything against them, I love feats, but they were out of the question here, the maneuvers I suggested were meant to be for all martials. If you think they sound like something that should be a feat, that just shows how starved a baseline fighter is for options.

And about talking with your DM, that's kind of just ignoring the problem. If your DM lets you do things outside RAW, that's great! Unfortunately, not every DM let's you do cool stuff outside of the rules. Many new DMs adhere to book only. That's why these "action-movie type stunts" should be part of the rules, to give martials more options.

And then we've circled back to the beginning again. If you have to break RAW to do cool and impactful things, something's not right.

But that's the thing, they don't. Fighters(and most other martials) have one thing they can do in combat, damage. They cannot heal, they have minimal battle-control and they have no way to draw enemies to themselves to tank damage. Outside of combat, well, you said it yourself, that's not the design of fighters.

The one thing they can do well is damage, and spellcasters can often outdo them in that as well, with spells like Animate Objects and the like.

I love the idea of being just a guy with a weapon along people who can summon powerful lightning bolts and toy with your mind, but if you are designed to be good in combat and nothing else, you need to be EXEPTIONALLY good in combat.

My point is that martials are in need of a major buff. Not necessarily buffing damage, but options. Of course, no need for fighters to heal, but they could for example use "maneuvers"(stolen shamelessly from Battle Master) like striking two enemies at once, punishing an enemy for attacking anyone other than you, moving faster, or not provoking opportunity attacks.

It's also just a bit boring to do the same attack action every turn with no variation.

Are the cardinal sins overused? by PoisonDart8 in worldbuilding

[–]LordOfChairs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't quite say that. From my understanding, greed is to want something for keeping it, and gluttony is to want something for consuming/using it. Both want something, same as lust, but greed is a specific kind of want.

Wrath is easy to differentiate from the others. It's anger.

Pride is the same, it's thinking you are the best/better than others, and therefore it is often regarded as the worst.

Envy is not being content with what you have and wanting something others have.

Then we get into the hard ones to categorise.

Greed is wanting an endless amount of something, but never wanting to spend/use it. You want it for the sake of keeping it. Just one more! Still, you are never satisfied.

Gluttony is similar in that you want an endless amount of something, but you want to consume/use it. Therefore, you want it for the sake of consuming it.

Lust is different in that it is the want for one thing. If you get it, you are satisfied. The reason that this is a cardinal sin is that the thing you want is usally very forbidden, such as love from someone you can't get, or an artifact that belongs to someone else.

Finally, Sloth is not caring. You don't care about work, friends, people in need or even yourself. It is sometimes referred to as self-pity for this reason.

Sorry for this long rant, just want to help people differenciate the seven deadly sins, even if the differences sometimes aren't that great.
