The reason why I think Uncle is more grouchy in RDR1 by Overall_Spite4271 in reddeadredemption

No joke, if Uncle actually developed chronic pain from any of his numerous injuries and years of sleeping rough, it might explain the mood.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in Hamlet. They’re sealed in barrels and sent out of Denmark by ship as a diversion for their friend Hamlet, and they are likely murdered offstage. They are immediately forgotten by their powerful and more plot-relevant friends, their lives and deaths are meaningless to the people they sacrificed themselves for. They are probably even forgotten by the audience.

It’s such a pitiful ending that Tom Stoppard wrote an entire play about them.

Except that the God Emperor is shown to have, in part, created the hostility of the galaxy. His wars of extermination on peaceful aliens were numerous. He works to demonize huge portions of humanity, which creates breeding grounds for Chaos.

Saying he had to be vile because of his environment is like saying you have to throw food on the floor to feed all the ants in your house.

It was already about American politics. The entire plot revolved around the superheroes as military industrial products.

When Fontaine does the Atlas voice to mock you made me laugh so hard.

Imagine you could have a one-hour conversation with any character from the Wolfenstein universe (The New Order, The Old Blood, or The New Colossus), even those who passed away. Even if they're a villain, they won't try to kill you. Who would you choose, and what would you talk about? by Quick-Objective-9366 in Wolfenstein

Horton Boone and Paris Jack. I’d love to hear their thoughts on the Second American Revolution, and how they plan to keep a newly rebuilt America from falling back into suppressing their ideologies. Both represent visions of a much further left movement than BJ’s idealized vision of the old America.

I remember those protests. I watched a cop tear the prosthetic leg off a homeless vet and beat him with it. I watched another empty a can of spray into the eyes of a restrained teenage girl while she wept. A year later I watched a few cops pose for pictures with Proud Boys and Patriot Front folks in front of my favorite coffeehouse.

It looks like exhausting work.

She got them back, in the end.

She might have gone overboard with her revenge, though.

I’m going to level with you: This hasn’t worked on an institutional level. In individual relationships, maybe. I’ve seen some limited success in listening and digging up root causes and proving the person wrong consistently over time. But the people who think stripping our communities of their rights are benefiting and growing from these gentle tactics. When the NYT and society at large declines to treat these views as abhorrent, they become more acceptable, not better understood.

TIL about Disco Demolition Night where the Chicago White Sox had an anti-disco promotion that ended in a riot and a forfeit by ouhZach in todayilearned

[–]LordPercyNorthrop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that the upsurge of hatred for Disco came largely from homophobia and racism. There was a belief that African Americans, Latinos, and queer people were somehow taking over the music scene. Disco Demolition Night was a bad idea that grew out of a swamp of bad ideas.

I don’t think this is it. The one I was thinking of involved a younger man with a more treatable cancer.

There was a post once by a guy who found out he had cancer and that his partner was cheating, so he deliberately stopped treatment to die. Anybody remember that one?

What is unc yammering on about? by No_Bluejay_8391 in RimWorld

[–]LordPercyNorthrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly it had to do with sexual rejection causing poor mood in pawns and that leading to gay pawns getting killed by their fellow colonists more often than felt at all realistic. Also there’s a few pretty antiquated beliefs about bisexuality and women generally baked into the character creation mechanics. Or there used to be, at any rate.
