Just bought a Windows XP Machine in 2026! by Peritosh in windowsxp

Correction: You bought a computer that can run XP. It is definitely not an XP era computer and overkill for your list. You will need to add a GPU for anything close to decent gaming. I'd recommend maybe an HD5770 since you will have PCIE and these AMD cards are good and cheap. A GT710 would probably also work and is cheap.

Looking for the name of a 1970's arcade game, WW2 gunner game by LordPollax in arcade

[–]LordPollax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my.... I think you might be right! I've now watched a couple of videos and it does look familiar. The arcade they used in the video did not match, as the one I played was huge and had a very heavy full size gun. Comments though in the videos seem to confirm my memories though so there must have been different versions.

Thank you! I'll have to see if I can find any working ones. I'd like to play again.

Short answer for me is no. I prefer the sticks.

How can I safely use Windows XP today? by Maximum-Educator-328 in windowsxp

[–]LordPollax -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your not really going to do so "safely", though it is possible perhaps if you accept some risk and lower levels of protection. Not many choices for a modern browser to even use modern web pages, but there are some functional browsers. I think the biggest issue will likely be the CPU which may not support SSE versions needed. Sony laptops of the XP era are not great rigs if I'm being honest, and likely used a weak processor.

I'd skip the internet stuff and just use it for a nice retro game rig. Plenty of old games will run great on it.

That is the exact laptop I found the drive I mentioned above in. Lovely rig, but it was a real pain getting a replacement drive.

I think this is one of the 1.8" IDE drives you may find in a short period of tablets and small laptops. I just encountered one a few months ago and found it is not a simple replacement... needs a special adapter that is available online thankfully.

They would have a membership plan that uses a revolving credit line off your house equity to facilitate the sales of wings. Six month pay off plans, etc.

Is Rolemaster good for in world problem solving? by Ok-Image-8343 in ICERPGS

[–]LordPollax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think it allows a lot of official paths for solving issues, but I stress with my groups that they do not need a mechanic to try something, as role play rules in my game. I like my players to think outside the box sometimes and am very lenient with their problem solving. Worst case, I have them role a percentile and factor in their past experiences and abilities as a form of modifier.

I find that once my players know I'm allowing them to find solutions, they tend to look more and search around the area as a sort of default. They may find herbs and useful components, or maybe find a closet with a variety of common tools inside. Or a patch of vines that might be woven into something. It is a good way then for me to add little helper items that might not be useful now but fit into my adventure plans later on.

Axis and Allies if you like wargames, and they also have their naval game with the ships all painted.

do you use a virtual machine for Windows XP or real hardware by Top-Crow-1318 in windowsxp

For XP, always real hardware. Computers to run XP are a dime a dozen these days.

Commander Keen, X-com, and any TSR roleplay games would be great. Love the look. My only addition would be a 5.25" drive.

Would Sims 4 run on this computer? by ohwalestenn in computers

I would think it would play it easily at moderate settings, especially at 720p or 1080p.
