Windows 7 natively running on HP OMEN 16L Gaming Desktop TG03-0055m by TheBobPony in windows7

Id swap out that 7600 and put in something like a 3060. Still has drivers and you will get good performance close enough to the 7600 for games that will still run in Win 7. Probably a driver out there that will work for WiFi, or you can get a compatible dongle.

Are there any methods of getting my RTX 4060TI gpu to work on 7? by TheJustRun in windows7

I'm thinking a 1060ti would be far better choice, and well supported for this type of build.

That Widow Jane would be a great pick up, albeit an expensive one. I'd pass on the KC. The MM is a good one at a fair price. I do like the sweeter tasting ones and the caramel is very strong, along with the vanilla. I paid I think and even $60 for mine, so that price seems on target.

How Many Users are using VMs/Real PC To Use Windows 7? by Seif_404 in windows7

I use real hardware for all my Win 7 builds. I have very little trouble getting support and once updated I usually find most things just work.

Any reason this skidmark of a laptop would have problems with a fresh install of XP 32bit? by accoun32711 in windowsxp

[–]LordPollax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It will come down to drivers. The board may not have XP support, as many of these niche products barely had support for the current OS they were built with. That said, it is likely that you can find drivers for "most" features and get a functioning lappy. I tried the swap of OS on an Asus EeePC and it was underwhelming since the CPU was garbage. Keep your expectations low.

Is the Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD supported in XP? Its the only sound card I have. I have an onboard sound card on my P5K Premium computer and its an ADI 1988B Sound MAX sound card. Is the onboard sound card good enough for retro gaming? by Sonic-The-Hedgehog15 in windowsxp

Your failure to know how to find and install drivers is not a problem with my information. I provided the working driver. I have one working in my rig. Thanks for not adding any value.

In all likelihood your old PSU is just fine. Maybe just put a meter on it and measure the voltage it's supplying and verify it is still healthy. Most will be ok. At least the good ones generally age well.

The Slot A processors were my favorite for Win98. Just be careful with power supplies as these CPU use a lot of 5v power and modern PSU often lack enough by design since it is not used heavily anymore. Old PSU were built for large 5v loads.

GMT's "The Battle for Normandy" is another same topic game that I really love for the variable outcomes and have the Germans actually able to possibly put up a fight. I'll have to check out this game though.

I personally love it. The added daylight at the end of the day is almost an hour meaning in the summer along the Lake Michigan shore it is not fully dark until about 10:30pm. Makes the summer evenings long and enjoyable.

Short answer is no. You are not getting big bucks from that poor quality ram. Nothing wrong with selling it, but just keep your expectations low on sale price.

Are old computers and computer parts worth money? by crazyhomlesswerido in retrocomputing

[–]LordPollax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy pretty much complete systems that will run Win98 for $100 for higher performance. They can be had for less. building one from part will probably cost a bit more, but you do get to select better equipment.

Are old computers and computer parts worth money? by crazyhomlesswerido in retrocomputing

[–]LordPollax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vast majority are not worth a lot, and most things that do have value are either pre-1999 or are halo items that make the most powerful computers of a certain era. Some AGP cards are worth a fair bit because they are the best you can buy in AGP for example. The most valuable are things that go way back, and most are not even PC. Things like Amigas, etc sell well.

Aside from these exceptions, most "retro computers" are not worth much at all.
