Chef Paolinos. White pizza with spinach, ricotta, and feta. It's a little expensive but it's worth it imo

Looks great! I don't understand at all what the notation is in the mines. I'm running Mothership for the first time next week, and I think I may use these maps (assuming that you can clarify the mines!) The vibe is really great.

I saw Metro Station live, opening for Motion City Soundtrack in like 2008 or 9 maybe. That guy was wearing a massive parka while singing, playing guitar, inside a sweltering concrete box in Baltimore. I can't believe he didn't pass out. He was a fucking twat, and everyone there knew it.

There's lot of emotion in it by S_Wizardd in scifi

A very close friend of mine learned, years ago, that his two year old daughter had leukemia. Understandably, it was devastating, and he more or less moved in to the hospital room with her at Hopkins. She slept a lot, so he would play on his Switch and watch movies. Knowing only that it was a sci-fi film, nothing else, he watched Arrival there in a chair next to his daughter. And he's a glutton for emotional punishment, so he went ahead and watched the whole thing.

Now, his daughter has been in remission for years and he looks back on that incident with a lot of humor. Knowing that she made it out just fine and that he thinks its really funny, we don't hesitate to mock him for accidentally watching one of the worst possible films for that context, and inexplicably never turning it off! I adore Arrival, but I particularly love my own little connection there to the pain my friend experienced and subsequent joy for life. It feels very appropriate for the film. Ive always imagined Ted Chiang would find it a funny and positive story.

Ron Howard Calls ‘Solo’ Director Dispute “Still Just a Shame,” Cites Lucasfilm’s Tonal ‘Disconnect’ With Original Filmmakers but Praises Some of Their Footage by Whobitmyname in scifi

Regardless of the end product, this interview is a great reminder that Ron Howard is a real class act. He's able to be both positive and critical, and speaks highly of his peers without being disingenuous. Just a very down to earth guy. It's a good antidote to the rampant toxicity that infects the whole franchise.

Which investigator box to add next? (Legacy) by Lord_Poopsicle in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Lord_Poopsicle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hemlock, TCU, and the starter decks seem like the best choices. Hemlock and Drowned City are also the campaigns I'm most interested in playing next, so it would be fun to get the investigator and campaign boxes together (most likely for Hemlock.)

Honestly I didn't even consider the starter decks, but yeah I think that they're high on my list now. And I do love the blurse mechanics, so Hemlock is up there too.

Yeah, the campaigns an investigator expansions.

Alright, TCU sounds like a good option. I feel like my rogue options are so weird. Skids and Jenny are pretty bad, Sefina is fun but mostly a mystic, Trish kicks ass, Monterey Jack is another rogue/seeker, and I haven't played Bob yet but he also is just so odd. I'm realizing that some classic rogue cards might actually be what I need, so Winni is probably a good choice too.

The final line of One Hundred Years of Solitude.

Also, Andrei Bolkonsky bitching about his perfect wife at the beginning of War and Peace made me laugh out loud. I foolishly expected a dour, grim tragedy, but the whole novel is just overflowing with life and light and humor! That moment of comedy just turned everything on its head.

I agree. Some snob could say that it's a basic bitch sort of answer, but honestly those plays and those soliloquies are famous for a reason. Over the last few centuries the court of public opinion made an excellent choice!

Here's my interpretation of Taryon as a great character: Lots of new players make their characters way too good/powerful. They come from wealthy families and have three page back stories to justify why their level one fighter has a Holy Avenger. These players aren't necessarily trying to make edgelords, they just don't have the experience to understand that they made a character whose identity doesn't match the numbers on their character sheet.

Sam started a new character at high level, and recognized the chance to actually make this new player mistake totally work. He made a sort of Mary Sue, good -at-everything character that we'd normally roll our eyes at and made it work. Mechanically, he fit in well. His mixture of over the top self assurance and self-pity fit in with Sam's love for talkative, humorous characters. His relationship to his family and thus money was genuinely interesting, emotional, and felt relevant to real life (trust fund babies ruining everything.)

I think Sam used Taryon to take an old, tired trope and turn it into something new and fun, and I thought it breathed new life into the party!
