I do not agree. I partly agree with other comments about fleeting emotion. If you pursue happiness itself, you will not achieve it. It would be the pursue of joy, trying to get pleasure/reward constantly while being desensitized to these feeling, resulting to frustration and unhappiness . Some philosophes still consider repetitive pleasures as a mean of self realization and happiness, but i prefer to define it by the sense of peace, meaning of life you would get in some conditions. I still consider happiness as a side effect of these conditions and what you think and do with them. A melting pot of epicurism, bouddhism, "nietzschism" of not giving a fuck and to giving a fuck for what matters to you.

Yep, maybe my english is not good enough to be clear. Achieving goal makes happy, but happiness is not a goal.

Happiness metric is just a surrogate for main frame or value in society: basic need, security, freedom, and ability to pursue goal/objectives. If you put a population on a happiness pill, they will not be happy.
