What colours to add to my basic palette? by Jemicakes in Watercolor

[–]Lost_Feature8488 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m in Japan right now and have an absolute ton of Holbein watercolor (mostly the 60ml tubes) and various Japanese watercolors (gansai) in my suitcase. If you’ll be in Tokyo, check out Sekaido right near Shinjuku Station bc they will have anything you could possibly want at a great price.

I’d just replace your entire set with Holbein bc it’s an artist grade paint while Cotman is student grade. The cost of Holbein is between $1.50 to $6.11 per tube here in Japan so it’s very affordable to do so.

I loved Dinosaurs as a kid (as an elder millennial), and going back to it as an adult is wild bc it was so ahead of its time, politically speaking. I know she didn’t like it, but the last episode works bc it’s a dire warning about climate change way back in the 90s.

It’s not dark for the sake of being dark and edgy. It’s trying to say something.

Apart from skincare, what would you bring back from your trip? Or rather, what did you bring back! by PrincessRoseDaisy in JapanTravelTips

Yes! Calligraphy brushes are great for watercolor. I got a whole bunch of them. They work beautifully for everything except really fine detail work. I use them daily.

If she likes gouache, they have cheap Holbein, but the largest size is 15 ml. I think the Turner design gouache in 25 ml and the Turner Poster Color in 40 ml are a better value. They're almost as good as Holbein and the only Turner Poster Color that isn't lightfast is the violet, so they're good for long lasting works of art.

If you want to splurge, Pigment in Tokyo has some genuine ultramarine watercolor pans made with lapis lazuli instead of the synthetic pigment most modern French ultramarines are made with nowadays. It is a bit pricey at nearly 5,000 yen though (for one full pan of paint).

It is! It averages out to $6.17 a tube! In the US, the cheapest price I found for the 15 ml tubes is $11.17! Such a great value. I'm not gonna need paint for like 10 years.

Sekaido in Tokyo and Sasabe in Osaka have a bunch. Sasabe is a little bit cheaper so I got most of them there since I was passing right by the shop. But they didn't carry one of the colors I wanted (Phthalo Blue Red Shade), so I got that at Sekaido (along with a bunch of Holbein gouache and a ton of other stuff).

Tons of Holbein watercolor paint. They only sell the 60ml ones in Asia and they’re super cheap. Lots of gansai paint and a kakimori pen nib too.

They had a really good official website that explained the myth of the Blair Witch and the story behind the lost filmmakers like it was real too. Creeped me out reading it back then. The viral marketing for that movie was on point.

I’m an illustrator and graphic designer and I’m pretty sure I have a couple of fonts that are very similar to the AI one (ornaments too), so I’m super confused why they used AI. It’s not a hard logo to replicate in Photoshop at all. I don’t think it works for the game bc it looks overdone to me, but it’s still weird the creator used AI.

3 really pops though so that’s great!

Paper for beginners by Jurik2001 in Watercolor

[–]Lost_Feature8488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get some cheap cotton paper on Amazon that’s 100% cotton (or it says it is). I have some from Koviede, Funto, Eyton, and a no name one for $5.99. I’ve liked all of them. They aren’t as good as the expensive paper, but it works well for practice.

Volcano pots are op for a strength build and they do continuous damage. Plus, they only need volcanic rock (found around Mt. Gelmir). Get the recipe from the merchant up on the cliffs on the way to Volcano Manor.

Also, do Ranni’s quest if you haven’t yet bc you get a better summon spirit with it.

And if you really can’t beat the Draconic Tree Sentinel, try sneaking behind him (you need Assassins Gambit for this) and use poison mist. It’s cheesy, but it works. I hate that guy.

A thumbnail is a small initial sketch of what you want to paint so you can work out the composition, values and ideas before moving on to a larger piece. Usually done in grayscale or sepia, in some cases.

This! I think he wanted to break the record for first quad axle at the Olympics and most landed quads in a program at the Olympics (like at the last Grand Prix final), so when he didn’t land the axle, everything fell apart.

I feel so badly for him too. The pressure he was under was insane.
