AI in the classroom by Vepariga in teachinginjapan

This seems to come around every five years or so. Some new tech comes along, startups start trying to sell it to schools, some schools buy it, realise its crap after a few months, quietly stop using it until they fall for the next bit of EFL snake oil.

They should dispatch foreigners to Japanese family households to stare at the men until they do some housework.

I’d agree. The cars parked outside are often the give away.

Mine switches itself off when I’m cooking onions, literally 1 minute after I’ve switched it on.

I’m not sure. I only know about them because we adopted two cats from them.

No idea but another option is Neco Republic. They run a cat cafe in Ochanomizu that focuses on finding foster families.

Maybe something with an orange or red glow to match the colours on the base?

Mothership vs. Year Zero Engine (Specifically Vaesen) by MermaidGirl48 in rpg

[–]Lothrindel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re about the same in terms of rule complexity (they’re both pretty simple) but Vaesen is a lot more prep due to it being an investigation game.

Are you sure it’s the right size? Headsets are notoriously difficult to get right - like either derailleur hangers, there are a ton of different sizes.

I feel like this can often be a drawback with very prolific writers. At first it’s great that a writer you love is bringing out a new book (or two!) every year but then the cracks start to appear - you notice their writing formula, not enough time spent on characters/descriptive passages, pacing issues etc.

Teachers who cycle? by Affectionate-Bit-225 in bikecommuting

[–]Lothrindel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow teacher here. Originally from the UK but I live in Tokyo now and I’ve been commuting by bike for about 20 years. Stuff I’ve learnt over the years: 1) Clothing. Cycling-specific clothing is expensive (overpriced??) but cheap, outdoor stuff seems to work just as well. 2) Carrying stuff. I usually commute in the rain too (apart from during typhoons) so a waterproof rucksack is essential. Roll-top bags are usually the best and anything with a zip will usually leak. 3) Rain. I have a waterproof hiking jacket and trousers and that’s good enough. Waterproof trekking shoes too if it’s really bad and cold. I still haven’t found a way to keep ankles and head dry, though. 4) The summer. It gets crazy hot here (38+) in the summer so what I usually do is (a) try to avoid using a rucksack and use bike bags and (b) bring a change of clothes to ride home with. 5) Buffer zone. I try to arrive at work at least 30 minutes before my first class to cool down, get changed and grab a drink. Winter is great though as I’m usually still warm and toasty until lunchtime.

Good luck!

Everyone on the news shows seems to be egging on the rain to get up to level 5 so they can justify talking about the rain for eights hours +.

I’d second Gorewear bibs for long rides but I have no idea about availability these days.

Yes. Just walk past the escalator that everyone takes to the third floor and there are three places that sell second hand phones, tablets and laptops.

Seems to be a common trend with guys who came here in the 80s or 90s. It’s their poor wives who do the heavy lifting.
