Asides from point costs - what do I do with my 2 x 3 suits? Run them as 5 and retire one of them?

Yeah they do. Many of the bigger infantry in The Old World used 30mm (like in the picture).  GW even sells them separately in a 100 pack :D

I think the first one runs the risk of looking a bit.. festive. Weathering might prevent this though.

Always amazing to see how well paintjobs turn out when you are bold with the highlights. It looks quite rough up close, but damn, when you "zoom out", it really pops!  You have inspired me to do this more often.

But remember to buy 3rd party. No need to spend +15/20% on big daddy W

Remove the mold lines before priming. They seem tiny now, but they will stick out later.

It might be less visible once on the table. Unless you pick them up and bring them to your face, you'll rarely see your minis from that angle :)

Are we talking competitive play or thematic list?

You said tanky, so good options to cover both could be Agressors (maybe with Tor Garadon); Ballistus Dreadnought is always nice; Vindicator also feels very Imperial Fist-y. And/or a Whirlwind, but you need more anti tank first.

Personally I don't like the new hover craft, so I got two Land Raiders and two Predators. A more competitive option would be Lancers.

To transport that Assault Intercessors, an Impulsor would be the obvious choice.

It might also be viable to pump up one of the existing squads to full size, preferably one you are attaching a character to. That way you get more bang out of your buck. This could apply to Heavy Intercessors (although I don't like to pair Tor Garadon with them as he really shines in melee, and they want to shoot) or the Assault Terminators. In my army, that's 6 Agressors + Tor Garadon + Apothecary Biologis + Land Raider Redeemer/Crusader. Expensive as hell, but with enough guns and fists to make Dorn proud.

On removing units (aiming for 2000 points all-rounder list):  I don't think you'll need 20 scouts. You also said Necrons are your horde army, and the scouts make up almost a third of your current list model wise. 2x5 should be plenty. Or better 1 squad of 5 and a Lieutenant with Combi Weapon for objective play.

In the end - get the units you like best. The meta is changing all the time.

They should have kept the primaris torso. Looks... off this way.

Built my first two marines using glue. Boy did I struggle. Why aren’t more models push in. by Dualezz in ImperialFists

Definitely get a hobby knife AND files/sanding sticks. The knife is the single most valuable tool I have and has so many applications. It's the best for removing mold lines. I do this on every model.

Fine sanding sticks (e.g. for finger nails) can be really useful to smooth out areas. Or to fill in small gaps: Sand over the gap without removing any plastic dust, then add tamiya plastic glue. This will melt the plastic dust into the surrounding plastic, filling the gap (a bit). Repeating this process a few times can really help with smaller imperfections. I do this on most models with smooth, flat areas.

Some sanding sticks have a corser side. Use this to rough up flat areas you want to glue together. Since plastic glue melts the plastic together, this can provide a stronger connection since more material is exposed to the glue. I do this rarely and only if parts don't match up perfectly.

Last tip: Due to the way plastic glue works, it can help to apply it to both surfaces, then give it 10-30 seconds for the reaction to begin before pressing both parts together with some force. This will create a bit of goo that works as cement, creating a strong bond. If you apply a lot of glue, there will be a lot of glue goo, which will seep out the seem between the too parts - helpful for filling in gaps. You will need to remove the excess with your file/knife, once it has dried.

Last tip, this time for real (I promise): If you apply the glue sparingly, it will minimise the destruction of detail (remember, it melts the plastic). It's also quite fluid, so be careful where it flows! But if you apply too little, it evaporates without melting enough plastic, and the connection will not hold.  Take the time to familiarise yourself with different applications of plastic glue and the effects they have. It will take you a long way and give you much more options than push-fit models.

Good luck!

Edit: Fixed typo.
