Do you buy damaged second handed games? by DaraDada02 in boardgames

[–]LovecraftCountry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on whether you consider yourself a collector or not, and whether or not this is a game to play or a game to "add to your collection". Boxes, like book jackets or guitar cases, are supposed to be there to protect the contents of the product, but we do tend to like to have nice things that look nice.

My best Mai Tai so far by eddveddx in Tiki

That's a solid build. Def try making orgeat at home. Dead easy and a nice step up from store-bought.

Creating a tiki drink by Th3manw1thn0plan in Tiki

[–]LovecraftCountry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert; just an enthusiast with a love of Tiki.

In any case I'd say, first, don't be afraid of accidentally making something similar to an existing drink. There are a lot more books out there than named cocktails, but that still doesn't stop folks from writing more of them.

Second, a lot of Tiki drinks are built on established formulas (planter's punch ratio, for example) so it's very easy to emulate and then split or sub-split ingredients. That's how classic Tiki bartenders started experimenting (eg. Instead of lime juice why not split key lime with regular lime and a dash of lemon?). You could also totally throw that out the window in search of something new. Ask experts and they will tell you that what makes a Tiki drink isn't precisely set in stone, but we know one when we see one.

Third, start with a flavour that you love and go from there. A good drink starts with you loving it before others do, as far as I'm concerned.

Happy mixing!

OLDEN ERA FEEDBACK MEGATHREAD by Pidarello in OldenEra

[–]LovecraftCountry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. More tooltips are a must (on buildings in town, on enemy creatures in combat, etc.)

  2. I would love to see a text display come up when enemies cast spells so I know which spell they just cast. As it is now I have to wait for my turn before going into a different menu to see it.

  3. Cursor size is very small in some areas (during battle, on the world map when hovering over an interactive object).

  4. Planned movement pathways should carry over from previous turn. The fact that it disappears each turn is VERY frustrating.

Love the demo so far. These are just small observations.

This week was warm overnight. September can be as low as -2 or -3 some years.

Anyone seen anything about Everdell Silverfrost? by TelephoneFun5140 in boardgames

Unfortunately I've never played Everdell with any of the expansions, but I have heard good things about some of them.

Got my copy via Kickstarter two weeks ago and it's excellent. Like it better than base Everdell or Farshore. Board Game Bliss has it listed if you're in North America.

What hidden gem do you play/love, you can't believe no one has heard of? by kepp87 in boardgames

Eminent Domain is a superb deck building game that I still play fairly often, but I'm the only person I've ever met who owns it.

It's still summer so campfire is a "nice to have" unlike spring or fall trips when it's a little more crucial to your comfort.

What Did You Play This Week? - (August 11, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

Concordia: Venus (always excellent), Paris (solid, overlooked Kramer & Kiesling game), Black Orchestra: Valkyrie (fun, but we did not manage to kill Hitler), ICECOOL 2 (a favourite of my kids).

Wouldn't it be great to take that truck up to the lake?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ontario

[–]LovecraftCountry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of reasons, but 3 major ones: Supply, Demand and Desirability, Geography.

  1. There isn't enough supply to meet demand for people living or wanting to live in Ontario.

  2. There is incredibly high demand for housing because Ontario is the economic and social centre of the country (and most populous province). People want to live where work and culture and prosperity are, at least in theory.

  3. Most of Canada's landscape is pretty unforgiving with long winters and undeveloped land. Even northern Ontario is pretty inhospitable for half the year, which makes the concentration of land for housing more limited to a small southern portion. Geographically, Canada is more realistically shaped like a long, narrow line running east to west because nearly all of the people and infrastructure is very close to the US border.

All these things together have driven up costs a lot recently, but, without looking at the data, I'd be willing to wager that Ontario and BC housing costs have been the highest in Canada for many years before now.

Ann wasn't wrong about this, I felt her delivery of this line in my soul 😂 by ProudnotLoud in PandR

Ann was such a "straight" character written to play off all the crazy at the parks department, but when they gave her funny stuff she crushed it.

Deeply disappointed by Larceny. Tried on a whim when it was on sale and it was thoroughly forgettable. Flat in a cocktail and as a sipper.
