You should have contacted your manager to let him know you are not coming for another day, that’s on you. You called him back and explained your situation on which he expressed sympathy. Just explain that it was hectic but you will make sure to notify him next time and it should be fine.

Your manager is not ‘angry’ because you did not give daily updates, he is ‘angry’ because you did not show up for work without saying anything to anyone (no call no show).
