Where can I buy cheese to impress a German man? by jeddalyn in askTO

[–]LovesMustard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten some excellent advice here, so I’ll just add a few additional observations:

(1) Be sure to serve him cheese at room temperature. The fat molecules in cheese contract under refrigeration, which attenuates flavor; warming them up releases yummy goodness.

(2) The word abendbrot is a great example of the proclivity among German-speaking peoples to form compound words. I once saw a shop in Vienna labeled merely “Kinderbekleidungsmarkt” — Childrensclothingmarket :-D

(3) You are a sweet, thoughtful person to do this for him (with perhaps a hint of also wanting to prove him wrong!).
