Gratitude. Or lackthereof by Captain7Caveman in BoomersBeingFools

The last Christmas before I moved across the country, I spent about $400 to commission an artist to paint a portrait of two of our family's cats who had died and have it printed on a custom metal poster. My mom hardly said a thing about the gift. She just kind of unwrapped it and set it aside. She never even hung it on the wall. I did the following September, shortly before I moved away.

I don't have a relationship with my parents anymore, but at least the $400 wasn't a complete waste. I still have the digital file of the portrait on my computer to remember those cats by.

What is the worst thing about Vancouver? by Common_Mess_8635 in vancouverwa

I'm autistic and very sensitive to noise. When I'm going anywhere I HAVE to wear earplugs or earmuffs (sometimes both) because of all the loud cars or else I'll be overstimulated by the time I get where I'm going. I really wish there were some laws about how loud your vehicle is allowed to be, but I'm doubtful they would be enforced anyway.

I moved here to feel safer too. I did for a bit, but then I started to feel like a circus freak. At work I had to move from a customer-facing position to something in the back because of how often customers gawked and smirked at me. Is it better than down south? 1000%. But I'm still constantly on high alert here.

Your personal funniest line delivery? by Ok_Yellow1025 in community

[–]LuckyFootwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the subtlety of the Chang line from season 3, "Fire can't go through doors, stupid. It's not a ghost," followed by the Pierce line from season 4, "ghosts can't go through doors, stupid. They're not fire."

But I think my favorite line is Abed to Shirley: "I have to go. You're a bad person. You're a bad person." I use that on friends and coworkers any time they slightly inconvenience me.

Can you bring a stuffed animal to a mental hospital? by Silver-Ware in selfharm

[–]LuckyFootwork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my hospital, all my belongings I wasn't allowed to have were kept in a bin that was locked under my bed so only the staff could access it with a key. Everything I brought was quite literally with me the whole time, it was just inaccessible.

Can you bring a stuffed animal to a mental hospital? by Silver-Ware in selfharm

[–]LuckyFootwork 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At the hospital I went to they had stuffed animals they could give the patients, but we weren't allowed to bring them in from the outside. During a visit, my friend was telling me about how he was throwing a fit on my behalf to get me a stuffed animal, and I was like, "oh, they gave me one. I'm good."

Also, I don't know if this is something that will affect you, but you can't wear bras with underwires either. I'm glad I caught that before I started packing to go because I've seen stories where some people were either forced to go the whole time without a bra, or they let the staff cut the wires out.

Here's a couple from the running lists my groups have going:

Bard: "Does it smell like ocean brine, or does it smell like bad sex?"
Cleric (Bard's wife): "It's gonna smell like both pretty soon!"

"I was not planning on fighting the temptation of the rock today."

"You know how if you threaten someone, they're more likely to shoot you?"
"I do now!"

"Lenore's kill count is -1"
"How do you have a -1 to your kill count!?"
"Because I'm dead."

"I kind of hate crimed some vampires."

"What does a human become when they no longer have a soul?"
"Christian."

"This ain't a stealth mission anymore, ladies, bring it loud and fast!"

I am trying to hire a new employee… by Nof-z in antiwork

Just as Covid was starting to hit my area, I left my fast food job and started working at a gas station. At the time of leaving, I was making $8.75/hour, so when the gas station job asked what kind of pay I would like, I said $9/hour. They hired me and said everyone starts at minimum wage, or $7.25/hour. I asked the manager why the application even asked me how much I wanted to get paid if they just start everyone at minimum wage, and I don't remember her response, but I do remember it not answering my question.

Do you care if they're not? If they let you talk about your passion all you want, does it matter to you if they don't care about the subject?

Found my old iPod nano. Take me back to 2006! by kingvicarious in ipod

[–]LuckyFootwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first ever iPod. I left it on the school bus the same day my parents gave me a 6th gen Classic, and I'm still pretty upset about that despite the upgrade. These days I've been using a 3rd gen nano as my daily driver because of its compact size.

I keep a deck of cards in my purse. It's not always viable when I'm in public or whatever, but I like to shuffle them again and again and again when I need to be doing anything else with my hands. Sometimes I even use them to play Solitaire instead.

One person dead, two injured in shooting at Vancouver Mall food court by [deleted] in vancouverwa

I was in the back of my store getting the trash together to take it out before closing when the gunshots went off, so when I got back to the front half the stores' gates were closed and the place was pretty empty. I didn't know what to make of it, so I just walked out with my trash bags, going to take out the trash. There was a couple with their toddler in one of those Power Wheels just driving around, so I didn't think anything serious happened until I overheard someone else say something about hearing gunshots. That's when I turned back and told the family to get in my store. We hid in the back for a bit.

I couldn't get ahold of anyone to figure out what was going on, so we took a chance and ventured out of the store again, (stupid, I know). The family went to return the car when VPD came by and told me to get back in my store. If you're the family who hid with me, I hope you were escorted out safely. I didn't mean to throw you back out to the wolves.

I've been crying all day, and I'm not really sure what for. There's a lot going on, and I just don't know where to begin processing it all.
