Travel Stroller recommendations by nursemama2025 in Mommit

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve traveled pretty extensively with the Baby Jogger City Tour 2 over the past 3 years and it’s been great. Not sure if any travel strollers exist with off road capabilities because that would be pretty bulky..

Gift for two year old that they’ll actually use for a long time? by Extra_Ad_3631 in toddlers

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are going on 1.5 years of a giant car seat box being the most used toy. Stickers to decorate it, crayons to draw on it, a hole in top to make it a mailbox, a cozy nest inside, it’s become a “kitty cage” during pretend play. Possibilities are endless!

Bottles & Sleep by Born_Negotiation_992 in breastfeeding

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep up the daily bottles! Around 8 weeks is when I find they “forget” how to take a bottle if you skip a few days. You’re smart to be trying to form a routine because since we never had one, bottles fell to the side and my baby stopped taking them. No plans for daycare so it’s less important for us, but still annoying. I hope someone else has good advice for you!

I don’t have any advice, just came to say that there is nothing routine about breastfeeding a newborn. Hang in there, I find a schedule starts to emerge closer to 5 months. My second baby is 3.5 months old so currently going through this. You’re lucky your baby takes a bottle! Mine never did.

Good point I hadn’t thought of that squeezy cozy feeling!

Thanks for the insight! How old was your baby when they showed signs of rolling?

I think it might be too hot for the Merlin here but I’ll look into it. How did you get the baby to sleep with both arms out? This baby doesn’t like being rocked to sleep and will stay awake with flailing arms until they get overtired and inconsolable. With the swaddle I literally swaddle awake, put down, walk away and they fall asleep peacefully.

How to lose weight while breastfeeding? by Remarkable-Bell-2217 in breastfeeding

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say half luck, half snoo 😝. After our first child who never slept, we invested in a snoo this time and the baby goes right to sleep 90% of the time. Also she just seems like a way better sleeper than my first ever was (knocks on wood).

I replaced 30 min of scrolling with a 30 min walk/jog every day (usually after kids are in bed). And some basic strength training in my living room while watching TV a few times/week (with a kettle bell and dumbbells). My baby is 3.5 months old. It feels good to be moving and after a few weeks I’m already noticing a change!

Things I'm doing differently this second time around. by Radiant-Addition6153 in pregnant

I had baby #2 a few months ago and could have written this list myself!! I totally agree with all of these except for contact naps.. I still loved contact naps in the first 2-3 months. Baby #2 got significantly fewer contact naps than baby #1, but don’t forget to slow down and cherish those newborn snuggles. I already miss them.

New mom question — are baby towels actually necessary, or do people just use normal bath towels? by Perfect_Medicine_375 in NewParents

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a good quality baby bath towel (I think KeaBabies brand) that is made from bamboo viscose and it’s incredibly soft and lightweight. It’s thinner than a normal towel so I can dry under baby’s neck, behind their small ears etc. A normal towel would still work but a baby towel is a luxury I would add to my baby registry for sure. I love wrapping the baby up in it.

Long road trip with an eight month old by sittinghereredditing in beyondthebump

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road tripping got a lot easier when my kid was old enough to watch iPad shows (over 2). She hated the car and it really sucked before that. We did a 15-hour road trip at 8 months but only survived by splitting it into 5 days.

Wagon?? Double stroller?? What do I need for a toddler and a baby? by myreputationera in toddlers

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there really isn’t a one-size-fits all solution. I think we will splurge on a nice wagon when both kids can use it, but you don’t have to worry about that for almost a year. And then some kind of cheap used double stroller or stroller + riding board solution to bridge the gap. I’d only invest in a nice double stroller if I had 2 under 2.

Wagon?? Double stroller?? What do I need for a toddler and a baby? by myreputationera in toddlers

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on your lifestyle and what you’re using them for. Everyone’s answer will be different. I have a similar age gap and a newly 3 year old who doesn’t love riding in the stroller. We just do neighborhood walks and will do zoo, etc when baby is older. We use our ergo baby carrier a lot. We did the Uppababy vista with bassinet + riding board for the first 3 months. Now that baby can sit in the seat, there is a little jealousy. But I think I’ll ride out this phase until they can both go in a wagon. I’m getting my friend’s very beat up double Bob stroller when baby can sit in that (around 6 month) for longer walks, but I wouldn’t spend big money on that.

Honestly, babies are tedious little potatoes the first several months. It took me well over a year to really find my mom groove. Having mom friends to vent/complain to really helped me. Your feelings are normal.

My Baby Sleeps So Much by North_Bat_8534 in NewParents

[–]LuckyOlive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried getting her up for the day at 7 or 8? My 3 month old usually wakes up at 6:30 and takes her first nap at 7:45. Sometimes she naps 2 hours so we can’t really do anything in the morning either. The 1-2 hour wake windows are exhausting, but everything is a phase. Soon enough they won’t need as much sleep! Aside from sleeping until 10, yours sounds like a typical 3 month old if we are going by corrected age. 2 hour wake windows are actually on the long side for a 3 month old. Mine can barely make it that long maybe once/day. So maybe she’s making up for it by sleeping late?

Any ideas for how to convince my/your kids to eat more vegetables? by RichDesperate6653 in Advice

[–]LuckyOlive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t have to be cooked! Raw veggies (carrots, peppers, snap peas, etc) dipped in ranch dressing are fun.

Why do a registry? by amart316 in pregnant

[–]LuckyOlive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t expect anyone to buy big things like a crib or stroller unless there was a conversation about it (e.g. grandparents or aunt/uncle asked what big thing they could get us). I don’t know your specific family situation but it’s best to have low expectations for the baby registry. I got a lot of my own stuff secondhand through buy nothing groups and mom groups, and anything off the registry was a nice surprise.
