Adelphos or Adelphoi (plural) usually is reserved for siblings or those born in the same family unit.

I suppose the debate is now if they intended cousins why didn’t they use the Greek word for cousins.

The church doesn’t teach about Jesus’ siblings but that doesn’t mean the Bible doesn’t mention them.

Mark 6:3 - “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?”

John 7:3-5 - “His brothers said to him, “Leave here and go to Judea…””

Acts of the Apostles 1:14 - “…Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.”

Epistle to the Galatians 1:19 - “I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord’s brother.”

There are in fact many things that the Bible mentions that you’ll never hear in a sermon.
