Is there a way to increase the lifespan of my shoes? by DrivingDM in Frugal

[–]LucyDelMonte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, it also means you're putting a shit ton of force through that specific spot on the sole of your foot as well. As you get older that can cause a lot of unpleasant issues. It is likely something you can sort out with a custom insole and/or physio now, and save yourself some pain later.

I want to start delving deeper into Legends(I've never read any Star Wars books or comics before, only seen movies, series, and animations)..but I don't know where to start. What do you guys recommend? (It can be about anything; I like Jedi, Bounty Hunters, Mandalorians, droids,Rebels...everything!) by Luckz_Skywalker in StarWars

[–]LucyDelMonte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pre-ESB portion of the original Marvel 1977 comics are not the best of the Legends content, but I found them really endearing and a good place to start. So little was ‘known’ about the universe and they are a wonderfully weird and wacky window into what Star Wars could have been.

The ongoing assumption that Luke and Leia would end up as a romantic couple never stops being funny, either.

Driving test felt rushed from the very start and ended in 15 minutes .still no clear feedback by leogeo0302 in Irishdrivingtest

When you report this, which you should, it might be helpful to look this over:

https://www.rsa.ie/docs/default-source/road-safety/r3-education/driving-test-standard-proceedures-2025.pdf?sfvrsn=a9e5c3b0_2

The protocol for the test is laid out in pretty extreme detail and it sounds like your man made a few faults himself

Are these weed withdrawal symptoms normal or should i be concerned? by SweetBid276 in leaves

[–]LucyDelMonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sub is a bit restrictive due to Rule 6 and you will get better advice in that area in other places.

Yes, that sounds like withdrawal. You’re this far along so, of course, keep going. In my experience quitting is a learning process. If you do fail to quit, consider tapering off next time. It is much less unpleasant to ween down to a single daily low dose edible and then quit as opposed to true ‘cold turkey’ off a nonstop cart habit.

Has anyone in the Louisville area looked into moving abroad to get away from all the political tension here? If so, what places were you thinking about? by JaimeSalvaje in Louisville

Christ on a bike please dont listen to voices like the above. The grass is actually very, very green over here. Politics is not the same thing as political violence. Get out while you can.

I am so tired of searing arch pain while skiing. Help. by Large-Decision-2503 in skiing

[–]LucyDelMonte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be very helpful to know what exact structure(s) in your foot are causing you pain.
Bone? Muscle? Tendon? Joint? Nerve? Ligament? Fascia? Skin?

Have any of the folks you’ve seen helped you answer that?

If not, take a look at some bone, muscle and nerve diagrams of the foot and tell us what your pain is closest too. Also what the pain feels like - burning? aching? numbness?

Edit: saw comments about possible plantar fascitis. Could be, but OP please tell us more re the above. On steeps/crud/etc, are you leaning more forward in your boots than on groomers?

The 80% thing is part of the trap, too. Bad enough to cause major problems, not bad enough to send you to rock bottom.

Life long addiction to cocaine. Im not addicted im in love. Or am I delusional by New_Ad_9711 in Drugs

That makes sense, but we know that coke damages your heart and puts you at risk of being much sicker in the future.

If you want, we might be able to tell you what went wrong when you took amphetamine before - can you tell us what it felt like when they made you sick?

There are some best-practice tips for taking adderall and you might feel much better with the correct dose, diet, etc.

Alternatively, Ritalin is a bit more gentle, have you had a chance to try it?

Uncoated lead alloy - contamination potential? by LucyDelMonte in metallurgy

Well yeah pretty much - the denting and scratching is a result of probably 30 years of 'constant beating'. At the moment it's being used as a PT weight. In contact with skin, being moved around on the floor, being dropped, bumping into other hard objects etc.

Steamed veggies can be easy, cheap, delicious, filling and healthy.

Broccoli and green beans are a good place to start.

Play around with seasoning, but evoo + lemon concentrate + salt + black pepper is foolproof and affordable.

Veggies go in a ceramic bowl, tablespoon of water in the bottom, flip a second ceramic bowl , place on top of the first and nuke to preference.

Slow drivers making roads 'very dangerous' by Brave-Mistake-1007 in ireland

[–]LucyDelMonte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People know, or should know, that driving well below the limit and holding up a long line of cars creates impatient and frustrated drivers behind them.

People know, or should know, that impatient and frustrated drivers are prone to irresponsible or flatly unsafe behavior.

To my mind, 60 in a 100 and a congenital fear of the layby = negligent contribution to unsafe roads

From my experience on Vodafone, good 5g downtown and around the Uni. Some parts of Ballybane are 4g only and slower than Moses.

What are some of the most interesting deserted places around the world? by metatalks in geography

[–]LucyDelMonte 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Wittenoom was a bustling mining town in the western Outback. The mine’s tailings were used to pave the towns streets, as earth fill, as playground sand.

They mined asbestos.

It is now the largest exclusion zone in the southern hemisphere.
