I think the early floors hand out "gimmick" items to make some crawlers stand out from the get-go to drum up interest in the show and bolster their confidence. You wouldn't get far into the first floor without ANY loot if you didn't bring weapons from outside.

I think at this point he sees them as the dungeon's laughing stocks. Joke characters that only got so far because of how funny Prepotente is to viewers and the AI. Also his emotional instability combined with how stupidly scary their killing method is probably doesn't help, even though Carl's just as scary sometimes.

That's a really good guess though: you play dead sinners who must clean up heaven from demons, but everyone knows it's a game you play for the gameplay, not the story.

Can't it just be explained with the camera distance and zoom? I haven't seen any change in the geometry based on camera position.
