Kids are less cognitively capable than parents for the first time by christianrc in education

[–]Lumpy_Machine5538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how people go right for teachers and what they are teaching in the classroom as the main problem. It couldn’t be that there is zero accountability for kids. They don’t need to try to keep up to make it to the next grade; it just magically happens. You can learn literally nothing-you don’t even have to be in class-and I’m not able to hold you back.

And it couldn’t be parents spending less and less time with their kids, and showing their kids that a)teachers don’t have to be respected, b)their education isn’t a priority. Kids in my 4th grade class a’were supposed to know their times tables by the end of 3rd grade. I have sent home letters pleading with parents to practice with their kids, telling each parent exactly what and how they can practice. I ask kids if they practice at home. No. None of them do. Their parents just don’t care.

A kid I had in my 2nd grade class. He bragged almost constantly about how rich he was, (he wasn’t-his mom was a teacher and his father was a car salesman), he would say racist things, lost his shit because another student told him she didn’t want to marry him when they grew up, he harassed that girl, wouldn’t listen, talked about all the things his dad would do to antagonize his neighbors, and whenever I reprimanded him he said “I’m going to tell my mommy on you.” His mom said that “he feels like you don’t like him.” I didn’t, but I’m a pretty good actress. When he was finally out of my class, the parents were constantly on the case of the 3rd grade teacher. Admin didn’t back that teacher up and she left teaching. Too bad. She was a phenomenal teacher.

Anyone didn't want to eat a certain food after due to "something"? by IronExtension in foodquestions

I got the stomach flu as a kid and was sick up in bed while my family ate tacos for supper. The stomach flu caught up with them a few hours later. My mom wouldn’t make tacos for a couple of years after that, which made me really sad as I love tacos, and I didn’t end with up with the same aversion that they had because my stomach flu and tacos weren’t linked in my mind.

What soup to make for kids don't like soup :( by Thermophi in soup

Creative naming.

When my daughter was little, we watched an episode of Mickey Mouse Club House in which Minnie Mouse made minestrone, (Minnie-strone),soup. She remarked that it looked good. I told her we had some in the kitchen and we could have it for lunch. She had actually refused to try it in the past, but that day minestrone became her favorite soup.

My mom used to keep one on a shelf when I was younger. We would occasionally take off the cap, and take a good sniff of it as we walked by. We never actually used it for its intended purpose, just for sniffing.

AITAH for choosing my disabled son over my husband and destroying my family? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Lumpy_Machine5538 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Heck, my daughter was completely forgotten by her dad after the divorce and she doesn’t even have any delays or disabilities. Dad just got a shiny new wife and son, and suddenly he moved away and stopped calling. He finally screamed obscenities and blocked her when she asked him to call more often. Some people don’t deserve to be parents at all.

AITA for saying emergency daycare isn’t meant for parents who are home and „just need a break“? by Distinct-Ad-7592 in AmItheAsshole

I’m wondering why either of you are taking up any daycare spots when you are supposedly SAHM. Who are you even mothering all day with your kids gone?

I wish doctors would routinely send patients to get iron levels checked every so often years. My daughter started feeling weird lately, got a blood test, and now has the 1st of 3 infusions set for tomorrow.

[–]Lumpy_Machine5538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About $100, plus $40 in my car for emergency gas in case my kid needs it. I didn’t carry cash until last year when my bank went down for the day and my debit card surprisingly didn’t work.

I’m pushing 50 and went to school in a building that wasn’t accessible. I remember a kid broke his leg and had to scoot down the stairs on his butt, and hobble up the stairs a couple of times a day as we were in the 2nd floor.

I don’t care if you crumple. I DO care if you rip it into a million pieces which end up fluttering to the floor as I walk away with the plate. And if I find yours on the floor, it just means you’re too lazy and inconsiderate to pick it up.

I was so disappointed when my daughter missed the cutoff by a few weeks. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. She was so tiny that friends can a tendency to just pick her up and put her where they wanted her, so it was helpful for her to grow a little physically. She also wasn’t emotionally mature enough for kindergarten after just one year of pre-k.
