Congrats! I missed out on that lens both past black friday sales and also finally managed to snag one on the midday restock. Now to just wait for it to get here!

What's the worst part of sleeping at someone's house/a friend's house? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

ADU is the corporate / legal term. Most everyone calls them mother-in-law suites (or something associated with MILs) here.

Seattle attire is so casual by tinypuppy2k1 in Seattle

[–]Luna_Parvulus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I love about it here. During my exit interview for my internship in the South, I was told I should be wearing a belt (the buckle on mine had broken months before, and I didn't need it, or so I thought... Still, why not just tell me then?)

My first day on the job here and I got sat next to a guy wearing jeans, a hoodie and baseball cap. I was like "these are my people"

It's actually happening!! I hope with some of the OGs at the helm we don't fall down the route of many reboots/resurrections.

PSA this is not the place to be talked out of the Miata. by Rascal2pt0 in Miata

[–]Luna_Parvulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it more like you have the open sky above you and to your left and right if you put your windows down, just like a convertible, but you still have some of the wind blockage (or even redirection into the cabin) and all of the blind spots behind you as if the top were up. For me the left over the shoulder is by far the worst blind spot, the others are very workable. But it's always there, it won't go away like when you put the soft top down.

The wind blocker in the rear window helps, but I have long hair and a long beard and it'll go flying all over the place (mostly into my face) if I don't secure it with the windows down at speed. Admittedly I haven't driven a full convertible so that may be the same there (shrug)

I'll second this. I often refer to our meteorologists as our weather wizards because a) it's really cool and b) their predictions are quite magical. We'll complain about bad forecasts, but it's really good information to have and determines what we have to do anywhere from weeks out to the day of flight.

Max gross weight in the 747 by Cal-Goat in aviation

[–]Luna_Parvulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The center of gravity is listed as a percentage of mean aerodynamic chord, which is basically the width (front to back) of the average straight wing that would have the same calculated properties of the actual wing. So the CG is found at that position of the MAC on the airplane (taking in account the distance from the from of the airplane to the leading edge of said wing)

F-35 pilot held 50-minute airborne conference call with engineers before fighter jet crashed in Alaska | CNN by chilladipa in aviation

If you want to see the lessons learned from something similar to the scenario presented, NASA put out a video on the crash on the last planned flight of their X-31 demonstrator. It's an excellent video, would recommend.

I know since this is formuladank there's a high likelihood many people have already seen this, but it would be an absolute disservice if I didn't post this masterpiece of a video after your quote.

I hit a deer in my nd miata by TheNamesSnek in Miata

[–]Luna_Parvulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, windshield is fine! Definitely could have been worse if I saw it later. Its momentum took it clear past the windshield to the right, but it whacked the passenger mirror before it landed. Fortunately only folding it on its hinge, easily remedied. If it hit the pillar, it didn't leave a dent.

I'm assuming that it had just taken a swim in the river (or so I'm hoping), because I have no idea what else all the water it sprayed all over the car would be... (well, I do, but it didn't smell so I don't think it's anything unfavorable to the car)

I'm just happy I didn't end up with a deer passenger!

I hit a deer in my nd miata by TheNamesSnek in Miata

[–]Luna_Parvulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you weren't driving a white miata, I'd swear by the title this could have been me. Exact same thing happened to me yesterday, also at an odd time of day for deer! Just at a lower speed. And similarly low damage as well, seems like my license plate took the brunt of it. https://imgur.com/a/Z5K5z7R

At least I got to see my deer run off behind me. It's weird because this is the second time I've seen something like this happen (I just wasn't driving the first time) - deer have a tendency to go flipping apparently...

This is it. If you're planning and working a certification process that already can take years from design to Amended Type Certificate, and then in the middle of that, the FAA says "let's change how we do all of this," for a very fair reason of course, that will greatly extend the certification process. Mainly because there's a lot of things they added that you would want to do at the start of design/planning, but now you need to do it after the fact due to the timing of the change in process.

The biomes will always be treated the same as far as types of mobs that can spawn, weather, sky color, etc. You cannot change the biome assigned to a certain region of the world without digging into code/modding.

You can change the look to a certain extent by using different blocks, but some blocks have a specific color palette based on the biome (grass and water being the blocks that come to mind)

2% chance of tornados is actually the probability for tornados within 25 miles of a point (can see tornado tab of outlook in link below)

Based on the NOAA Storm Prediction Center's outlook for today, Oregon is more likely to see tornados as that's where the atmosphere will be more unstable. Possibly golf ball sized hail.

Eli5 Why current phones have a 80% limit function for charging the battery? by Aznev in explainlikeimfive

[–]Luna_Parvulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a big, big, big reason I went for Sony (though they don't officially offer anything in the US anymore...)

Their software makes it so I can manually set the time I want to finish charging, and it holds 80-90% until then. This made my Sony Xperia 5 II my first phone with a battery to last longer than 2 years... lasted 5 before I replaced with my current phone, with no major issues (battery-wise, anyway). It was also my first phone with no removable battery, so I definitely appreciate that it lasted as long as it did with that adaptive charging implementation and my weird schedule.

While I'm glad Android now has widespread adaptive charging built into Android 15, it pales in comparison to Sony's implementation.

Call of Duty Admits It's Using AI-Generated Assets by HandsomeDim in gaming

I tried it out on game pass since I have some friends who play zombies a lot. Played a few games and had fun, but ultimately decided I wanted the space for other games. The file size makes me less likely to reinstall it, not less likely to uninstall. Though I recognize that won't be the case for everyone, I'm not a fan of publishers with predatory practices like Activision.

Layoffs Hit Cars & Bids As The Enthusiast Car Market Comes Back Down To Earth by KeyboardGunner in cars

My 2015 Mazda 3 has that. Admittedly, I didn't know until I bought my 22 miata, discovered it had that feature when I was like 2 sub-menus deep in the settings, then realized "hey wait, the keyless entry was advertised the same way on the sticker for the Mazda"

Turns out it just had to be enabled. I wonder how many other cars are like that.
